I haven’t drawn “Underfell” for ages.
Here are some back story according to my head-canon.
Two brothers always were closed ones. Sans cared about his younger brother and protected him, and that was really difficult for a monster with 1 HP in the cruel world. Watching his brother’s efforts, Papyrus decided to enter the Royal Guard to defend him. But the higher status he had in Guard, the more enemies he had around him, and many decided to use Papyrus’ weak point – Sans. To protect Sans from attacks, Papyrus began to treat his brother in cold and rude way. Astonished by this sudden change, Sans had been trying to return Papyrus’ trust. There were a lot of conflicts between them. Oneday these conflicts brought on a real fight, which became a tipping point in their relationships. Sure, Sans suffered a devastating defeat. But his body was damaged less than his mind. He was broken, and he believed his bother’s words that Sans is a mere nobody. From that day Sans came to terms with his low status and took place in Papirus’ shadow, hiding that he was missing earlier times.
