The limited dex is a good thing for the series. I stand by it. Pokemon was going out of control with imbalance and power creep and each game devs were forced to allow established players have an advantage over new players, or to bend over backwards and find a way to make ludicrous amounts of Pokemon obtainable in each generation, and to adjust Pokemon's stats and abilities to balance them.
Having played card games like Magic the Gathering, Hearthstone and... Pokemon, I can confortably say that rotations allow a much healthier game.
I completed the Pokedex with my friend using only Sword and Shield. I haven't been able to do that since Red and Blue. Yet there's more than double the Pokemon in Sw/Sh than there was in Red and Blue.
I very much looking forward to seeing how the game evolves with varied and changing Pokedexes moving forward without the devs having to one-up themselves each game.
