For Rouge to reach her full potential, Danvers has to die. This isn’t a comment on how good or bad the film is, just a cannon fact, (at least before the 2015 retcon). So, for enemies of the film, then this is good news, for fans, it’s a necessary tragedy.

A big fat lie. Carol never died, just went powerless for a while and even was able to be Ms Marvel again after that many years before becoming Captain.

I know that, I meant in the context of the movies. Or would you put Danvers out of commission for three or four films in a coma and then use a similar muguffin to bring her back? That contrivance is such a cliche, it doubt it would go over well. We have to change the circumstances of the transfer, however, seeing as Mystique was reformed in the history change, so perhaps Danvers gets fatally wounded through some treachery or another and willingly passes it on. That should be a nicely balanced approach.
