Oh it's pretty easy..
if you have Photoshop, you can edit a text-area and work a little bit with it.. you can edit shadows.. structures.. and transparency.. and rotate your text.. for example..
And these are only a few things of all the functions..

But there are definetely more software like this which are even for free. You only have to google it

There are a lot of free software out there to do the job.
Something like wMark 1.3 ? You can look for something that works for you.
Google watermark and see what you can find.
Some photo editing programs also include watermark creations.
