Diamond rings for monoxide screams, the monster's motivation.

He was born with the Devil inside, he claimed,

And it was Lucifer's work that he performed;

With each crimson drop upon this Gilded Age,

Another life was taken,

Unseen, forsaken,

A victim who would never be mourned.

He hid among the hosts of heaven,

A flawless angel in the City of White,

Preying on the dreamers and believers

Who knew not that they stood in the Devil's sight.

With a tip of his hat and a flash of a smile,

In the shadows of lies and the great white turnstile,

With fiendish charm did he deceive and beguile...

Yet under his angelic facade was a demon most vile.

Suffocation,

Mutilation,

Asphyxiation,

Exsanguination,

Each corpse was a disfigured tragedy...

A mother, a daughter,

A sister, a friend,

A woman deserted to agony.

Yet women were not quite enough to fulfill his sordid lust;

Businessmen and children, in the Devil they did trust,

For the devil seemed an angel, his intentions kind and pure,

So victim after victim passed; how many is unsure.

So many names and faces went unidentified,

But some is known of those he killed, stories he tried to hide.

Ask Alice what awaits down deep inside the rabbit hole;

Ask Nellie if she cried when he tore out her tender soul.

Ask Howard how the fire burned with such alarming force,

Then ask he, the Devil, if he feels any remorse.

Regret, there was none, not a whisper of shame;

The Devourer rejoiced in his glorious game,

Delighting in gore, destruction and despair,

And the lovely young calamities that flittered through his lair.

The Devil of the White City was captured soon and hung

For those whose lives he had cut short, so many songs left unsung...
