I finished this yesterday; another practice using one of my photos, this time using the original photo that Golden Glow is edited from. I tried something a little different and used no medium for the background. Instead, I started in the very brightest spot with bright Cadmium Yellow Hue and slowly added tiny bits of Cadmium Red Hue as I worked outward until I got to the clouds which were a mix of light orange and Cobalt Blue to start and then get a little purple toward the top corners of the painting with some black trickled in to mix it up. The water is done the same way I did it in Distant Storm ; I started in the center of the water with a bright yellow and then just varied the colors as I worked toward the sides, using small strokes near the horizon and then larger strokes as I worked down. This is a tedious way to paint water, and I don't know if it offers the best result, but I'm experimenting with my style. The shoreline silhouette and reeds are put in last using pure black; the paint is still wet and is a bit reflective on the left side from my new lights, but it's all pure Ivory Black.
This took a while to do but I'm very happy with it. It was different using no clear gel to paint the background and only using pure paint with no thinning mediums at all.
