Description ONE OF THESE THINGS is not like the other, one of these things just doesn't belong! o/`

Another shining example of why realmedia kicks my ass, and not vice versa. Though admittedly, it does look quite a bit better RL. My scanner's a bitch. Nevertheless, this is a piece for my concentration section of a portfolio to be submitted for AP art. Basically, you have to pick a "theme" and make 15 images based on that. A friend of mine is doing people with wings. I'm doing mythological beasties.

This image was based on the idea that oryxes are sometimes called the "Unicorns of the Desert", and the fact that antelopes may have lent strongly to the whole unicorn mythos, when observed from a distance.

...yeah, look. I have no idea. It's a couple of gemsboks and a fugly unicorn, okay? XD

*smacks you around a bit* are you insinuating you don't like your realmedia talents? because DAMN i would kioll a boy in front of his own momma to be half as good as this. specially at greyscale, which i fail at.

as always, your grasp of anatomy is fantastic, your shadows are perfect, and i love the way you add a bit of whimsy to ummm EVERYTHING you do without just smacking the viewer in the face with it.

and you made a unicorn that's not a carbon copy of the last unicorn, or just a pretty horse with a stick on its eyes. this one looks completely plausible and old-world-y, like you'd find in those medieval flora and fauna handbooks.

alsoalso, i really should have seen this coming, seeing as how you love ungulates and the oryx-unicorn explanation is the cooles one i've heard

wow, i'm really chatty today. ignoremeplz

It's awsome! But I believe those are actually Oryx not Gemsbock.

I think you're a little confused.

A.) Oryx is the name for several subspecies of large, heavily built artiodactyls with long horns, dramatic markings, and an affinity for the desert. There are a ton of different kinds of oryx including the Arabian Oryx, Scimitar-horned Oryx, Beisa Oryx, and of course the Gemsbok or South African Oryx.

B.) Yes, those are gemsboks.

Yeah, I've done my homework / Trust me.

I'm diggin it! I think it's a very classic style and I agree with you on where the unicorn myth might have stemmed from.

Bah, there is ass-kicking going on, and the ass being kicked does *not* belong to Liz. Also? I like the fugly unicorn, it makes one think about just where the legend came from, before they got all cutesy and adorable and daydreamy. And I love your anatomy in hoved animals. The definition of the tendons in the legs, the angling of the hocks... awesome.

This is really, creative, actually, I like it! I have a coloring book that has pictures of antelope-y unicorns....yes...yes I buy coloring book...and yes....I color them. MOVING ON! I really like the fact that they are just so natural and grazing out there, it's very cool! You should do an monocerous...those are pretty cool beasties too and I think one would look pretty killer in your style here!
