Description Enik had just arrived home today 09/06/11. It's been well worth the wait to see him go from a beautiful pelt into an even more gorgeous and handsome fox. This is just him lounging around in the makeshift bed I made for him using a recycled box and my favorite blanket. He seems to be settling in nicely. Now what how will my dormmates take it. << lol

Enik is a young Pennsylvania red fox. He's estimated to have been between 11 to 13 months of age when he was taken.
He is now a beloved Soft Mount who shall be used as reference for both my science and art classes at the university.

Wait...he's not alive? I thought he was alive and you're using him as a live model for your works. I'm sorry I didn't know. But he is still gorgeous though.

Well I am still using him as a model for my works yes... Though sadly no.. he isn't alive... he's a taxidermy mount. But I still respect him like any other living creature.
He was around 13 months when he was taken.... he's technically an adult, though young. I want to have one of the domestic foxes someday... but that's no time soon, that and they're not legal here.
But overall, yeah, he's still a beautiful animal and he shall remain a beautiful animal instead of some ones coat.

I went through the rest of your works and saw he was your 'model'. He was life-like I couldn't believe it. How do you keep him from getting ruined? I've noticed you change his positions.

So young...to die.

He's not a rigid mount, thus he's able to be posed in a variety of positions. How do I keep him from getting ruined? Simply enough, he's not a toy, so its not like he's being tossed around or played with. If I take him outdoors for outside shots I make sure to brush whatever gets on him off. Usually he stays in his makeshift bed where he's comfy.
Yeah, I know.... population control got him though... so there's nothing we can do about it... it's sadly come down to such things that I almost feel like using him as a statement to what's happened... the human population is reaching 7 billion in 2013... and we just keep expanding and building cities where forests were.... where do the animals we displaced go? They move into the city where we consider them pests.... or they become threats to our kids and pets and thus groups like animal control and population control come and do something about them.. when we should be thinking about what to do with ourselves and our out of control expansion and consumption of resources...

Okay. He has lots of loving from you. He looks so restful when he is in the box. ♥

Many years ago I took a pic of a mama fox but with great distance of course. I never realize how dainty and tiny they are.

Yeah...I think I'll never understand why we need to bring babies in this world with the way things are going. There was a couple in the paper who were out of work for two years and they had a baby this year. Hello? You can't do that. It will make things even harder. I have no problem if you already have kid(s) then got laid off years later but they are some have too many kids. It's not like the early 20th century where you need lots of hands to take care of farms.

I would love to see human control...*sigh* I chose not to have kids, it has been my decision since I was a teenager.

I'm along the same lines with not wanting to have kids, it's been that way since I was very young and I intend to keep it that way... And it's sad... considering that with humanity's stubborn pride about having the right to make their own decisions (yes we all have our rights and deserve many of them) But we forget in the long run what simple decisions when multiplied by the entire population have such powerful and often harmful effects....

I honestly never got to see a red fox until I met Enik. I've seen coyotes and little grays that run about. I even took care of a young gray that was abandoned on my neighbors porch and nursed him back to health till a lady at the wildlife foundation took him in.. poor little guy. (My sister named him Shippo. lol )

And I certainly hope En enjoys his box.. I gave up my favorite blanket for him. <<

I most definitely shall! Hopefully this coming weekend I'll take him up to the park with my friends. There's some really scenic places up there that I'd just love to get a picture of with him.

Atrieisan In reply to Sharsharkan [2011-09-07 02:24:45 +0000 UTC]

no, I got the pelt from population control. Foxes are illegal to have as pets in California. But if I could of raised him, I would of.
