Here is the final icon!
I decided to drop the non-tilted version but if anyone requests it I might send it to you personally.
I personally never liked the QuickTime icon for Yosemite. I think some of you might agree that it is a bit too dark, all tho the dark is to represent the dark translucent controls. This one ties up to iOS 7/8 Movies app with a Yosemite touch to it.
It comes in 1024x1024 so the resolution is great and looks stunning with Retina displays as well as non-retina displays.Β
This icon is intentionally made for QuickTime but it also works great for a new DVD Player icon as well.

I know what you mean.. I'm getting tired from seeing circle icons in general. Since Yosemite first revealed with the new iTunes, App Store and iBooks icon, everyone is making icons based on them and it just becomes too much circles for me.

Definitely. I'm sure circles would be very limiting when it comes to making a distinct, legible icon (but then again my design ability is non-existant!). Also, Yosemite really isn't about circles everywhere. I suppose it's easier for a beginner to stick a gradient and a glyph over a circle template and call it a day.
And if I may... if you're thinking of making a new icon for practice or whatever consider making a new Reminders icon. I really dislike the stock Yosemite icon.

So true but speaking of circle icons, I just finished my simple "Weather app" icon haha.
Thanks for the advice and yes I will see what I can do. I'm not really that much into the 3-Dimensional icons yet like the ones Yosemite has. It takes time to learn and with a lot of school lately I have little time to practice on them.

Cool, but I prefer your other QuickTime Yosemite icon and yes I agree the officialΒ new QT icon in Yosemite is ugly.
