Many of us here in the SQ fandom do not see Regina as Emma's step-grandmother for a few reasons. One, she was forced into a marriage she did not want at 18 to a man of about 60. Second, his daughter (Snow White) was about 10 at the time, so Regina and Snow are only 8 years apart in age and are more sister age than step-mother/daughter age.

Going by OUAT's (convoluted) timeline, Emma and Snow are said to be the same age when Emma breaks the curse, so that would mean that--in Storybrooke--Regina and Emma are only 8 years apart. A perfectly acceptable age gap.

Next thing: it's not exactly appropriate to comment on adoptee family situations. Each is unique in circumstance, but it's no one's place to talk about mental and emotional problems that stem from family life. If you've watched up to season 6 of OUAT, I'd say that you would see that Henry's actually pretty well adjusted for being abducted by The Shadow, separated from his mom for a year, ending up being the only person who can rescue his family from an alternate universe, and almost being killed by his other mother's boyfriend.

About adoptee family relations: I do agree totally that it depends on several things, one of the biggest I'd guess is the strength of the child or adoptee in how to cope with it, but remember how Mary Margaret said that Henry was having trouble coping so she let him have that storybook in the beginning of the series? He was having some troubles at home is what they indicate.
Now, that depends on each and every child in such cases, of which I totally agree, at least on the facts of the cases.
About the timeline of OUAT: the writers indicate clearly that for 28 years the clock hands didn't move; time literally stood still once you reached a certain age, so that helps to explain how Regina kept her youthful physique.
Regarding Regina's bond with her stepdaughter: that age closeness would tend to create drama, as the show indicates plenty of times, but both women do admit to being related like that in the show, and yes, I've watched every episode they made thus far of the TV show. And yes, in normal circumstances, they'd be closer to "sisters" than to "mom & daughter" due to their age similarities, which helps to beg a story; what if they didn't hate eachother to begin with, but say when Mary's about 16, she's eyeing a young man in her school, so one day in the garden Regina sees her playing with a flower as a young woman will when in love. Regina's husband has died by now, so she's a widow, and comes out to find out about the young man who's gotten her stepdaughter's heart... that's the general plot.
I'm so sorry to not have written back to you by now; here's hoping this doesn't lead to a fight by me writing back late- neither of us owns the series' copyright (so long as I know!) and so therefore our opinions are merely that- but you got it right, Regina did want to marry Daniel, not the guy she did end up wedding; as for the "Evil Queen" in season 6: she's Regina's sins- nothing else, but come to life.
Thank you for your thoughts. By the way, who really cares if we don't agree, and what difference does it really make, anyways? We both love the same show, so why bother fighting over not seeing eye-to-eye?
