This photograph has haunted me ever since I took it, and up until now I have had trouble connecting with the reason as to why it had such an impact on me.In some ways, I am shocked and saddened at my reaction to this photograph. It proves to me how embedded our stereotypes can be, even when we consider ourselves to be 'open minded' individuals. The last thing I imagine a beautiful girl like this to be doing is covering her face. Arguably, in my area, generation and culture, beauty/fame/image appears more important to the majority than things such as knowledge/integrity/charity, and standing up for what you believe in.
The bottom line is that I was shocked to see such a beautiful woman stand up so strongly for what she believed in that she was willing to go to such extremes to fight to defend those beliefs. The fact that she wanted to conceal her identity, as opposed to flaunt it, goes against everything Iβve noticed about modern youth culture.
It's haunting, but unbelievably refreshing, and conversely, it's made me feel much better about the world.

This is a very compelling piece. I work in media, and I also live in Trinidad (where we just had the Fifth Summit of the Americas, to some opposition naturally), and I think your picture really says a thousand words. It surely tells a story.. or several. Which is great, as it allows viewers to take whatever they can from it... just as you have. Amazing photojournalism.

Like others mentioned, the girl's eyes in your photo are very intriguing (& reminds me of the photo 'Afghan Girl' [link] ). Her expression makes me wonder what she saw at G20 or why she needed to cover her face at a lawful protest.
