I like this. I like this a lot. I've been trying for forever to make a convincing stone texture with lighting and shading and everything. Can I be privy to this secret?

For stone, I usually cheat a little and use a stone texture set to overlay on top of all the other layers. But beneath that, I build up the form. Rather than smooth gradients, I stick to angular blocks of color and cracks to emphasize the... rockiness? My runestone golem on RPR is probably a better example!

Thanks for the tips! Would you ever consider making a tutorial for this?

This is a perfect starting place for me, thank you!
I've been looking and experimenting for a long time over stone. But I absolutely love your style with it!

Awesome! For me, rocks are totally hit or miss. Sometimes they look great, and sometimes not (like on my Heimdall badge--those rocks aren't THE WORST, but they're decidedly meh)

I agree, I need to make a smooth yet very weathered stone with a fine grain to it. So your designs so far are leaps and bounds better than anything I ever made!
