Ziemlich cool. Der closeup gefΓ€llt mir sogar besser als das Endergebnis, weil man so viel Detaills sieht. Voll schΓΆne MΓ€hne und Lichteffekte.
Wie lange hast du daran gesessen, wenn ich fragen darf?

AtelierKunz In reply to KIARAsART [2010-09-20 12:40:51 +0000 UTC]

Danke...

May I ask why you chose to do a close-up? It makes it look very similar to my painting of the same lion, which I noticed was in your "Haldir" collection.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AtelierKunz In reply to ArdenEllenNixon [2010-08-25 11:37:51 +0000 UTC]

I've been collecting pics of Haldir for awhile and I started drawing him before I saw your interpretation. I was a bit dissapointed that you chose the same pic as reference, but that's life if you take a well known ref pic.
The reason for the close-up is simply that this is the only finished part of my drawing, so far. You can see the lines fading out on the left hand side where the body comes in. The finished picture will differ enough from your version - I hope that's ok with you.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ArdenEllenNixon In reply to AtelierKunz [2010-08-25 14:54:41 +0000 UTC]

I did notice in your comments that you were still working on the body of the drawing, but thanks to my having caught a few people using my work without permission in videos or copying me outright, I thought it was worth checking in with you to be sure. My apologies for my paranoia. It is a beautiful reference photo to use, and I look forward to seeing your finished interpretation.

AtelierKunz In reply to ArdenEllenNixon [2010-08-27 07:43:31 +0000 UTC]

I can see the similarities and I would have asked for the reasons aswell, so don't wory. Your interpretation is very beautiful and very unique in its blue colours and dreamlike manner. Mine will be closer to the original (in colours) at the end. May I ask why you chose to draw Haldir? Was there a special reason or did you simply like the ref pic?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ArdenEllenNixon In reply to AtelierKunz [2010-08-27 16:24:12 +0000 UTC]

When I first saw that photo of Haldir, I immediately focused on his face. There was so much emotion and falling shadows there that I just "see" the painting in the photo. That is generally how I choose what animals or people I paint when using references. It can't just be a good photo, there needs to be something in it that "talks" to me, causes me to look again, and feel a connection with the subject. Haldir's pose can be read as contemplative, sad, so many things--that's what drew me, and what I wanted to capture. I don't want to just to reproduce the photo, but to give it another layer and meaning.

Your turn: why did you choose that photo?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AtelierKunz In reply to ArdenEllenNixon [2010-08-31 09:08:10 +0000 UTC]

Wow... that makes sense. You've really achieved your goal of adding another layer to the ref pic with this one.
I very rarely draw from ref pics that I have not taken myself. With the white lion there was simply no choice, because there are very few captured in Europe and no Zoo close to me does keep any of them. I started reading about the white lions about a year ago. They are sort of mysterial because they've only just appeared in 1938 on the african continent. For natives they are the sacred children of the sun god that are sent to bring the light back to earth. And there are stories of shamans being able to communicate with the lions and even about shapeshifting.
I love those mysterious stories and I want to help draw attention to the white lions. So I collected pictures and came across Haldir over and over again. He is just an incredible beauty. But this one picture was more than just beautiful. It was strong but caged, sad but proud and very mysterious. Perfect ref

wow... thanx for your nice comment. I am happy with it but I still have the whole body to do.... and I've already spent hours with the head.... but I'll be fine. It'll just take more hours

Drawing-Mimic In reply to AtelierKunz [2010-08-24 21:41:56 +0000 UTC]

lol no probs i think with this image u got to try not to over do it cause i think the face creates the image and by putting the body in i think you may over power the image but that just my thought on it

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AtelierKunz In reply to Drawing-Mimic [2010-08-24 21:49:34 +0000 UTC]

well... maybe your right... but unfortunately I've drawn it on a black wooden board... and the whole design is laid out for the body to go with it (the head only covers a small part of the board) - so we'll just see and find out whether it overpowers the pic or not
