Lots of things going on.
The heavily armored watchman on his sturdy crafted plateau.
The old trees as heavily armored with thick leaves and bark.
Their roots crawling where they want to go, very slowly.
In the distance, gentle hills with a whole different kinda trees, way more cultivated.
A little lodge, viking style and .. is that a shadowy skeleton there on the back?e.deviantart.net/emoticons/let… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="395" title=" (Lick)"/>

There's lots of details and the more I look the more a possible story comes to mind.
To bad I can't watch the drawing closer because it's just not very big e.deviantart.net/emoticons/let… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="395" title=" (Lick)"/>
I like the depth and layers this drawing has, the whole image is working.
I miss that in some of your other works.
I think that more depth and feeling of dimension could be here by;
sharpness on the plateau and a slight blurring out the more you go in the distance.
And in the same way a gradient effect from darker to light.
Tricks of the illusionists e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=" (Smile)"/>
The big mass of trees should cast some enviromental shade on the left aswell.
The watchman's shadow seems to harsh considering that in all the drawing such blackness can't be found anywhere else.
If I would reframe the image I would cut a part of the bottom as the plateau's pillar doesn't seem to add much to the drawing and the stones seem a bit blurry compared to the rest.
Overall I really like the scenarioe.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=" (Smile)"/>

Thanks for your critique.
You know, you've pointed out quite everything that does not convince me in this picture.

Mostly the Shadow of the watchman - I would even go this far and call it shit. It acutally is one of the pics I wanted to redo for a long time. Great hint about the part of the bottom - you are right, I never noticed, but now I agree with you that it doesn't add anything to the rest of the picture.

I will also do some redimensioning on the elements of the picture (i.e. the size of the watchman compared to the trees).

This needs to be re-done very soon. Maybe this time, I will dare to use colours

THanks again, I really appreciate your feedback.

Glad my critique was of use
It was my first one so felt a bit unsure if it was any good XD
Didn't really notice the tree size versus the watchman,
but now you said it; indeed they are a bit off.
Guess it's the urge to put as much of the tree's on the paper as you can,
that made it so.
I noticed with my own works that reframing can do a lot
A bit easier for me since I tend to draw more on my pentablet nowadays.
But after you scanned your works maybe a good thing to keep in mind;
checking if all of the image really has to be there
O and give me a poke if you'd like any other critiques on any work you got.
I choose this one because it jumped most out of your gallery for me.
Can't wait to see how you'd redraw it (maybe even with colours)

You'll notice soon enough, I hope
Let's just assume I find the time and the energy to do it in the next time.

Well don't make it a have to tho XD
Just make what you feel like when you feel like.
Motavating yourself to just start already can be a good thing but forcing yourself to start something you have absolutly no drive to is something else

Thank you very much for the nice compliment!

I'm just starting to build up a collection of Norse subjects, so thank you also for the fave.

I suppose the next one will include the Fenris-Wolf.
