"I used to be an adventurer like you.And as you well know, adventure brings you tons of effective potions.
Everytime you get 'em you keep 'em safe, waiting for the very dangerous and critical moment for 'em to be used well.
That's how I ended up actually drinking none of 'em and gathered so many potions enough to set up a shop!
However, looking back on my time of being an adventurer, there was not a single reason to buy potions which you can rake from literally everywhere and already jam-packed inside your backpack.
You see, this place is slack all day long.
Now I'm in the same box with those merchants whom I ignored all along.
I'm even getting tired and angry of looking these damned colorful bottles of magical draught.
Sorry for the long wind! Sometimes it's so hard to keep my temper. Now, what do you want young fellow?"
"I wanna sell potions."

So many potions in the backpack that you forget about them when the moment has come to drink that incredible one in the funny vial.

It'd be nice to see games exploring the in-world economy a bit more. Ultimately, all the potions stuffed in the pockets of those bandits the hero keeps killing must have come from somewhere - even if it's just stuff they've looted from careless travellers who bought those potions thinking they'd help them.
I suppose it's really the end result of how small and underpopulated the worlds are in comparison to the huge number of bad guys out there. Whiterun is supposed to be Skyrim's major trading capital, but in-game has a population of under a hundred, just a few houses and only a couple of small districts.
The entire country is barely more than half the area of Manhattan.
Shopkeepers buying loads of slightly suspect potions to keep up with demand would be a lot more believable if there were the volume of customers there should be.

Most of my DM's never let me buy the potions I really wanted. So, looting the bodies of dead players helped out.

when it came to games like oblivion or skyrim i found myself only using potions i made myself (health and mana potions usually, everything else was just superflous, kinda wish there was a better demand/use for potions, hard caps on certain caps or skills that would force you to use potions to overcome them would be a neat idea, like only being able to use certain spells after taking a nasty tasting potion).

I literally tried doing this and was only able to meet the results with 2 thirds of success! Made'em for a D&D group! The third that didn't work out was the filling, I don't know how to make Mousse, so I did Cherries mixed with Strawberry Jam for HP potions and Blueberry mixed with red grapes.... Partial success.
I mean, anyone can do this; ya just need to find different stuffing to make'em unique enough to grab.

I can imagine the only customers to a shop like this would be regular townspeople/non-adventurers: people who can't / can't be bothered to get these potions themselves. Hmmm. I think this is a progenitor of a little idea. Imagine a potion shop where adventurers go sell their extra potions, which are then sold to the normal townsfolk.
