I just hope the reason for Mikaela's absence isn't as simple as "things didn't work out" and is made darker and more impacting for Sam's character.

Well, now that Carly has been put into the movieverse, it is likely that Sam will eventually wed her and thus give life to Daniel...I've also heard he'll be given the nickname of Spike by Leo.
