It's certainly an awesome piece. I really enjoy how the shadows were dropped on her face. I like that it's in the feel of realism, but it's still refined to feel like a piece of art rather then a photograph. Well done

For me, this is your most successful work. That's partly due to the composition and the overall movement in the piece, but I think it's mostly related to the eyes of the figure. They feel very real and 3-dimensional, and they appear to be staring at me in a way that makes me feel self-conscious. Also, the edges of the figure are soft and fade into the background in a way that makes her feel part of her environment. The cool skin tone combined with the very warm pattern of the wallpaper adds to her expression but also creates a sort of optical illusion - the wallpaper, which is behind her, is advancing in space as result of being so warm while the figure, which is in front, is receding into the paper because she's colder. Kinda reminds me of the story 'The Yellow Wallpaper' [link] .

And as a last thought, I'd like to say that it's wonderful to see how far your work as progressed when perusing your gallery. Great work!

No joke, this is amazing. I hope i can do something like this one day! Loving the contrast in the background, and the keys. I also really enjoy the way the hair twirls around the key

i like the strong red in the background, and contrast!

Nice work. The contrast really adds to the intensity of the painting. Why are there keys? They seem a little cliche and I think the work would be stronger without them.

it would most definitely be cliche if I hadn't been using them for over five years. I figure just because they have gained popularity doesn't mean I have to stop using them.

i have often thought of stopping with the keys...I felt concern that they were becoming a crutch...then they got hella popular on everything...I've seen more keys on things this year than ever before....so I was like, well I don't want it to seem I'm following a trend...but then I was like...haha...eff that! I like using them and I'll keep using them. There will be two paintings in this series that have keys, the others will contain other symbolic items that I tend to utilize on the regular.

Thanks for the comment, btw.

I wasn't thinking of them as a trend. A key is a universal symbol and they have been used as such for a very long time. Something so widely used for such a long time can seem cliche when used in art. I don't think it's as much of a problem as it would be in a lot of other pieces though. I don't think you have to worry. I hope I haven't been too critical.

The criticism is good...what you said had been what i had been thinking on and off for a few years now. They are very much a large universal symbol...but I just love how because of that everyone's perception is different. It can mean so many different things
