Have I ever mentioned that I love your storytelling? The way you get deep down into the meta parts of this comic is fantastic. The characters are just the right amount of self-aware. Absolutely brilliant.
Also, is that an old-fashioned telephone on that card?

Well dang, I was wrong about him being a Munchkin, but at least right that he was from KansasΒ Oz.
Of course, since this whole story bit is about the Goblin Kingdom and Oz, I suppose that's not so surprising.

why do I have the feeling that he might be responsible for whatever poison there might have been dripped into Glinda's ear? It's the only reason I can see why she is going through this ridiculous nonsense.

Once again, as someone who's readΒ WickedΒ and seen the musical... This guy is bad news. In the original Oz books, sure, he was a conman. In the 1939 movie he was affable. But in Wicked... The wizard was a FASCIST who oppressed the peoples of Oz, made the talking animals into non-citizens, and controlled the media to make himself look like the good guy. The musical was very much influenced by the times, as a lot of what was going on had a a certain political feel. The Wizard has an entire (delightfully cheerful) song about history being written by the winners and people believing whatever the government tells them to. Yikes.
With this universe running on fanservice and meta, the characters who have been around longer or adapted more have a lot more going on in their brains. If they have brains. Between the original Oz books, of which there are MANY, the various film, stage, and television adaptations, and the Gregory Maguire books, there is a LOT more going on here than what we're seeing. It's just a fact.

Not gonna lie, but I don't remember the Wizard of Oz being so... "friendly" about being in the war. I thought he was a coward to be in the war. After all, why would he send Dorothy and her friends to kill the witch and not do it himself (and I'm walking about the original movie, not the prequel Oz movie that Disney made.) Is he like this in the book? I will admit it's been so long since I last read that book.

The wizard may have no power of his own, but what many of us forget is that he fooled an entire world into thinking that he was more powerful than the witches. If that's not power, what is?

GarnetWings In reply to Zantetsuken0Reverse [2014-02-13 02:46:13 +0000 UTC]
but power is "the ability to make change". by this definition, the wizard is powerful. the sneaky sort of powerful.

Much as Erik doesn't want to admit it, the old humbug has a point--they're both tricksters and illusionists who perpetuate elaborate deceptions towards their own ends.
This would still be an extremely bad time to start revising his innate distrust of people in general, however...
