Precision, strength, and agility: The qualities of a winner.So, I've been working on this off and on for about two month and it was close enough to done I decided to finish it before starting the next commission.
There were a lot of challenges here, especially changing the helmet from the reference photo to a cowboy hat. (Sorry, all, I know helmets are smart, but cowboys hats just look better!) Overall, I'm pretty happy with it. It people really like this, I might do some more Western themed artwork. We shall see.

Done with mechanical pencil and kneaded eraser. No blending. (I'm lazy . . . ) Didn't scan as well as I would have liked; the scanner has a hard time with intense shadows and very light portions, so it washed out a lot of the pale areas. There is actually more detail in them, in case you're curious.

It's beautiful! I love it!!! You really should do more western themed art. I'm a western freak, and it makes me sad to see so little western riding themed art with the horses here on DeviantART.

I have to say, I expected a lot more people to like this piece. I kind expected fifty or so faves in the first 24 hours or so, but didn't get even half of that. 
I don't know that I'll do a lot more now, but if I want to market my artwork where I live, I'll probably start doing a lot more. Western is the most popular riding style out here (as far as I know anyways . . . ).

Yeah, it's rather dissapointing that there isn't moe interest in western themed art here on DA. And honestly, if I was a good enough artist, than all I'd be doing is either western themed art or horses at liberty either in apasture, paddock, arena, or out in the wild.
