In Japan, on Valentines day, girls/women give gifts to the men in their lives (and other friends). This can either be friendship/obligatory gifts - usually chocolate - or honmei chocolate, which signifies love and deep attachment.
White day happens a month later, on March 14th. It is a time for the men to pay back the women with their own gifts (which may or may not be worth up to three times the amount offered by the woman). In Japan, both V Day and White day are huge.
