Description Well remember how i mentioned leviathans in the description of this picture [link] ? Well this is my design for the all mighty leviathan. This is the biggest thig in the oceans, it is of a distant relation to dragons but has long since given up its land dwelling abilities. It can reach lengths of 300-500 feet , it is very slow moving. There are very few of these behemoths left as they are the ultimate sport, and it takes nearly a century for them to grow from adolescence. They can live in any temperature of water and seldom need to breath so they can stay submerged for days. Well let me know what you think guys~

Why is that people conflate the Leviathan with the Kraken? They're both epic sea monsters in their own right, like a fantasy magnification of sperm whale vs. giant squid!

Looks like one of these old ancient dinosaurs living deep in the sea ^^

You thought of Leviathans bio??? I only know the old myths about Leviathan, the giant snake There once were two of them but god killed on of them in order to prevent them to cause too much chaos in the newly born world. Leviathan is the female contrary-part to Bahamuth, the land-dragon and one day the angel Gabriel will come down from heavens to kill Leviathan and with this the Apocalypse will start. The holinesses (or however its spelled) that live on will use Leviathans skin as home and eat from its flesh.

At least thats what the original myths say ^^

But I like you version of Leviathan really much too! Its great! ^^

Leviathan is also hebrew for whale, so its just kinda become synonomous for sea monster. Im glad you like it a lot

Well, it must be huge, and strong.

Makes me thing that the earlier aquatic dragon isn't so conducive to directly attacking it so much as tearing off carcass hunks.

I'd love to see a rough approximation of scale.

Your work is unique and impressive as ever.

Yeah i figure that the aquatic dragons hunt in packs of 6-10, so if they mounted a strong effort they might be able to kill one.

AD1: Quick, Larry! While he's busy with Eric, jab at his eye with this coral reef!

You might have a point there...

do they then intake some air through osmosis or are their lungs so massive they just take in enough to last them for days???

I loved the other one, and I love this one. Hear hear for a unique take on marine dragons. Well done.

Yeah all those sea serpents and dragons seem too much based off of small species of fish. Large sea creatures are always very smooth and elegant, not all spiny

well when I think of Leviathan I always have a serpentlike "monster" in mind just like the way itΒ΄s also described in some stories
but youΒ΄re style looks cool and I guess with this huge body it could , if it wants to, cause alot more damage than a giant serpent could do

arvalis In reply to 09Striker [2008-02-19 21:08:56 +0000 UTC]

Actually the name leviathan means whale in hebrew, and has become synonomous with all large sea creatures. Yeah this is just my take on the beast

oh really, I didnt know that haha something I need to keep in mind ^,..,^ thanks for that
and yes thats what mankind always does
there are so many things out there that had (from the exactly meaning of the word or the sign) no negative meaning att all but now when you see/ hear it u always have bad thoughts in mind
just imagine some rune letters which where used for centuries by the asian people and also by lotsa kings
since the NAZIΒ΄s used that cross itΒ΄s always threated as a negative thing (huh sry for da long comment xD)

I like the multiple fins. It's perfect for such a giant, they probably help him swim. I can imagine him at least able to swim fast than perhaps a blue whale because of all the fins. I guess... XD Anyway, very cool design, I'm diggin' it.

arvalis In reply to digital-Rat [2008-02-19 02:34:54 +0000 UTC]

Yeah he can probably move pretty fast, but for his size it would be really slow. I imagine he could easily swim at a rate of like 35mph. Im happy you like this guy, i looked up a lot of whales when sketching it out.
