Hello Everyone!

In this artwork, I was commissioned to paint Tiamat, the Dragon Queen - In her "human form" plus Tiamat, the dragon herself, in the background. I was really excited about this project since dragons are really awesome creatures.
The Tiamat dragon had many references including the chromatic dragons but Tiamat in human form - really had very low image references across the internet. So I wanted it to be an original character and with the help of my client's descriptions, references and inspiration - we were able to figure out what will Tiamat in human form would look like.
My goal was to make a "goddess feel" or "a queen you would kneel in her presence". With her platinum hair and crimson dress with a little touch of gold jewels. A floating golden crown shards and 5 elemental stones which I thought the embodiment of the 5 chromatic dragons. And so our Lady Tiamat is born!
Now for the background - Tiamat, the Dragon Queen herself - I was lucky enough that WOTC (Wizards of the Coast) had already painted a lot of the Chromatic Dragons. The real challenge was I had to draw them in a different angle and perspective.
The far background contains rocky stone pillars along with the tail. And fire bursting in middle ground. The red crystals in the foreground was also fun to create - with touch ups of rocks and gold lines - to make it feel more raw.
Overall, while painting this artwork - I had to stick to the thought of which detail should I commit and what details to leave behind. I wanted my audience to focus on the Lady Tiamat but I also want them to enjoy the view of the Dragon Tiamat along with the other elements in this painting.
