8497 Crusis d, colloquially known as Hutton, is and Earth-like planet in early stages of development similar to Earth during the early to mid Devonian period. The atmosphere is rich in carbon dioxide and the surface is hot and arid, though the ongoing boom in terrestrial photosynthetic life is rapidly trapping the carbon and increasing oxygen levels, thus reducing the mean global temperature. Terrestrial animal life is limited but is also undergoing an increase in population and diversity as the autotrophs continue to colonize new land. The oceans are full of a great diversity of life and has very competitive biomes that will likely stabilize over the next 100 million years. The autotrophs in question are similar to coralline algae found in coral reefs on Earth, though the organisms on Hutton grow much quicker and have several major differences in anatomy. These organisms use phycobiliproteins in their photosynethsis cycle which gives them their red coloration. Hutton was denied candidacy for colonization because of it's lack of biodiversity.
