Description This was done from a photo reference [link] by neeta called To Hear

It's not perfect but I got as close to it as I could. It took about 12 hrs. to complete (I'm very slow!)

Adjusted the gamma & contrast using photoshop to bring the scan closer to the actual drawing... I also noticed it put a shadow line down the center of the face and a shadow below the collar. I think it's time for a new scanner!

My drawings are still way too light, one day I might learn to get rid of the soft touch I have.

2B mechanical pencile on smooth bristol paper 9x12
Hope you like it

Thank you neeta for allowing to use your photograph

You need some darker areas around the collar area and where the hair meets the head, if you get my meaning. Also on her cheek where the hair is partially covering it. Use the same shade of darkness that you used for the darkest areas of her eyes.
This is just absolutely perfect though! Do take your time and never rush. I've noticed that when my kids and I rush our drawings, they come out very sloppy looking and just not too good looking. So, take your time!

Thanks & thankyou for the I just rescanned it & it looked a little closer to the origional, I didn't think it would show up again if I just resbmitted it....Sorry about that

I don't think you need a harder touch, but a softer pencil. I like the fragile feel your "light touch" gives to your work though --AG

This should have been a daily deviation. I absolutely love the work you've done here its shockly true to life. Very good work. The hat is perfect but yes it cold be a bit darker. Other than that there isnt a hing you could do to make it better.

What really captured my atention first was the intricate detail on the eyes, they're just beautifully rendered...the reflection gleam adds a really nice reality touch to them, and also the difference in one being darker than the other, slightly and because of the light source...then the texture of the fabric of the winter hat is very cool, so is the scarf or collar she's wearing, again what amazes me of your technique is how detailed you draw the hair..you even erased or left without graphite some spots where the blond loose hairs run in front of the other strands..and then the ones randomly popping out next to her left hand and ear...awesome work indeed Greg...and shading very well executed too keep on drawing my friend...

Hey thanks Juan! I was really happy with how this one turned out other than being too light. I was real happy with the hair beings hair is not one of my strong points. Thanks again for such a nice comment.

Akifan In reply to artistwannabe [2005-01-10 17:27:31 +0000 UTC]

you're very welcome, Greg.. yeah the beauty of the model and pose was definitely captured. I bet this would look very interesting in airbrush, with a bluish color palette and soft pastel colors for the scarf and snow hat.

artistwannabe In reply to Akifan [2005-01-10 20:17:45 +0000 UTC]

Yeah that would be cool. I'm going to have to get a new airbrush some day soon.

i went the other day to visit a hobby-lobby store..i was just like i saw all the stuff they have...it's amazing...i've always wondered if there are airbrushes smaller to work on papers or cardboard..with acrylics or some kind of paint like that..i've only seen the airbrushes they use for painting cars or motorcycles...witha big aircompressor..and i've seen the miniature ones for model airplanes... are they exactly like that, for drawing?? or are there any special ones??

You can go here [link] and check out the Double Action air brushes. The Paasche VL airbrush is a very popular model and is the one that I have always used. There are lots of different types of paints and inks you can use [link] I have only used the Createx colors [link] myself.
