I love seeing new pieces from you... each one is an improvement in skill and creativity from the last and makes it a pleasure to critique.
So lets look at the areas you've improved on:
- Creativity... you've taken a stock image and changed it's mood completely... from a grungy gothic dirty image into a clean cut futuristic looking portrait. You've almost done a 180 on it. Bravo!
- Hair... although not a major improvement, you have pushed yourself to go as reference free as you're comfortable doing. I applaud that.. it's hard to pull off and you've done it.
I'm impressed... I mean the colours are not to my taste, but I can appreciate how much you've put into this. Don't think I've not been watching your WIPs, cos I have. Keep them coming with your future pieces. You've pushed yourself and that above all is inspiring. You keep on setting the bar higher for yourself and hitting it each time. Keep going!
Now I know you appreciate my critiques, so I'm gonna give you some pointers to improve on and some things to be aware of for your next.
Hair lines. ARGH. Not ARGH at your vector, but at how annoying they are to vector effectively. You've got a good hair strand technique on the go here... try to push this into the hair line... let the strands overlap the edge of your base layers to give a more realism feel.
When it comes to tattoos, remember they aren't just on a flat base... they are curved on the body so require not only shading but also light... you can achieve this by expanding the brushes of a tattoo and filling it with a subtle gradient. This will make it look more rounded.
Skin tones... you've got the contrast great around the hair lines/neck... but also try to deepen this around the corners of the eyes... inside the ears and the bottom of the lip/overhang.
Remember that lips are also skin... this is very important... when you're shading the skin, shade the lips also and then put the colouring on. Otherwise if you treat this area as it's own base layer, it will only look like a floating element. By treating it's shading as part of the rest of the face, they will look more natural as part of the face.
Eyes are bright white... I know you're going for a clean looking image, but I think they need to be dulled a little... and add some deeper shadow in the corners and under the lip... this will make her eyes look more dramatic.
Sometimes, even though funky brushes like the glow brushes are great things to use... but if you're going for something so bold as this set of colours and the focus being so much on being clean cut and pure... the background can sometimes be a distraction... play around with adjusting the contrast of the glows... or even overlaying them onto the couple (at a larger size) - so it appears they are between the camera and the couple.
Keep going Julia... I really admire your persistance and how much you're improving. I love it and I love you as an artist. You're inspiring not only me but others into just giving it a go at pushing themselves in their work. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/h/h… " width="38" height="15" alt="" title="Hug" />

As always, thank you so much for being so constructive, I really appreciate it a lot.
You're absolutley right about the hair lines, they're a pain in the ass. I'll try to fix that.
Once again, you're right about the lips, I wanted them to stand out so much that they ended looking like a separated element.
Hmm.. the eyes do have a little shadow, you can see it better when you zoom in, but maybe it isn't enough for the full view. I'll keep that in mind too.
Anyway, I'll keep in mind all of the comments and try to fix everything I can (not now, because I worked so much on it that I can't even look at it right now but someday I will correct everything, I promise!)
As always, thank you for your helpful critiques, and for your kind words, they are a constant motivation for me
