This is newly relevant! There's a fun book I'm reading called The City Of BrassΒ by S.A. Chakraborty inspired in part by the 1000 tales, and I was looking for inspiring images to feed my imagination.

You know how to work with saturated palettes. That's crazy. Reminds me a little of Diablo II when you're first shown Lut Gholein

Interesting color use and depth, still the contrast between warmth and cold seems slightly strange D:

I'm in love with you're use of atmospheric perspective. Like the rocky structures in the hazy background could be shrouded in a sandstorm for all we know. And the contrasting color use is amazing! Placing the orange and blue so directly next to each other makes them both intensify color-wise. Congrats! Such a beautiful work.

This is sooo beautiful! I do a lot of illustration for biblical stories, and so, well, I draw a lot of desert so it is always inspiring to see a beautifully drawn desert landscape!
And is the title of this image the title of the short story? I would love to read it!

Thanks! Indeed desert scenes provide a great sense of colours and feel to them, pretty much like all great natrual open landscape environments.
You can find the short story from The Arabian Nights, it's just called The City of Brass : )

ArtDoge In reply to Lord-of-the-Word [2011-01-11 14:14:34 +0000 UTC]
Thanks! They short story of The City of Brass is about 2 Travelers with their caravans who got lost in the desert looking for brass bottles that were used to trap jinns by King Solomon long ago, and on the way they meet up with fascinating ancient ruins and relics, and a city of brass which is a ghost city full of treasure and hidden secrets!

Shit, this is nice. You got some Justin Sweet thing going on.
I like the value composition but I would probably work out the saturation contrast. It could be stronger if the centre area was more saturated than others maybe?(in the other words, desaturate the other area)

Thanks Keita! I'll fix it right away! I'm thinking of adding just a bit more details to the buildings themselves!
