Description
a character pitch i did for an animation studio.
they'll be making a short animation of these characters,
and will be airing in Singapore before the 2010 youth olympics start.
i wasnt paid right for this job..
so i have all the rights to post these in my gallery.

Team Kranji synopsis

GENRE: Anime-style animation 22-minuter/episode show
TARGET AGES: Under 20
STORYLINE 1:
Our opening scene would be an airplane in a night rainy sky with thunderbolts and lightning. The last lightning flash cross dissolves to start of the sequence inside the airplane.
We start the sequence inside an economy class 747 boeing airplane where we see happy passengers having their meals and drinks and being served by the stewardess. Pan across and follow stewardess number 1 going to the cockpit door.
We cut inside the cockpit of the pilot checking his instruments and coffee is served to his side. He took the coffee cup, smiles and say thank you. But hen a BIG BANG sounds happens. Camera shakes and pilot reacts.
The passenger reacts and looking at the direction of the sound and we truck in to the right side window, cross dissolving through the glass and see the right engine of the airplane on fire.
A view from the outside we saw the airplanes right side slightly pointed down and we saw the engine on flames. And another bursts of lightning explosion happens.
We cut back to the pilot struggling and holding on to the control wheel of the airplane. He said in his microphone “Ladies and Gentlemen, please fasten your seatbelts and prepare for an emergency landing”.
Passenger are in panic and trying to get a hold of the oxygen mask hanging in front of them and put it in the nose while the others bend on a crash position. Camera shakes becoming stronger.
In the cockpit, we saw the instruments losing altitude and the ground is coming in fast on the window. Bi Pac scene.
We then give fast shots to passengers, praying, crying, holding hands, shouting…
Then a fast cut back to the chief pilot and we truck in to his shocked eyes as he saw the ground fast coming in at him. Closes his eyes and a white flash of light comes out covering the whole screen. Sounds fade out.
Cross Dissolve
Reveal the aftermath of the crash and the retrieval of the bodies both dead and alive.
On one side, we saw a line up of teenage survivors sitting and being served with hot soup and water. Battered and shaken we track in and pan to each and everyone of them.
FLASHBACK
On the flashback, we show each of the 12 kids (10 boys and 2 girls) at their best in the computer games competition.
Nico and Spej in car racing ala Grand Turismo.
Awgie and Adik showing their skills in Counterstrike.
Chubi and Mitchel on the DANCE O RAMA dance mat.
Yeng and Billy on the guitar and drums computer games.
Anton and Bunny on the Adventure games.
While Cris and Donald showing their prowess in the DOTA games.
Next shots would be a signs of jubilation and celebration for their winning and being champions in their own category. Cheering sounds fade out
THEN WE CUT TO Anton’s dirty face and truck out. Anton is lying on the grass and the last person to be picked up by Matuto. This will be the first we see Matuto and wave at the survivor to follow him for safety. And as he walks towards the hill, we start to truck out and reveal the teenage survivors struggling to walk and follow him while we also see the remains of the wrecked airplane and area still smoking and burned. FADE OUT

STORYLINE 2:
One early morning
The kids who had not played any physical game all their life, found themselves too bored in the shack of Matuto – the man who rescued them. Matuto used to play for the Tanzania’s National Basketball team but a serious court injury sidelined him for life. His right leg is supported by metal braces. Matuto’s place is far from the civilization, about five days hike in all directions, and the bus that passes that route was not scheduled to arrive until about a month for his supplies and mails. Matuto could have sacrificed to hike the expanse, but the weather at this season was at its very unpredictable. The kids found entertainment playing games in their cell phones. They, including their coach, all agreed to wait.
Fresh food is plentiful and fishes abound that there was no worry of hunger, but there was no electricity. Kira – Matuto’s wife – was just too happy to see the kids are alright. Until all their cell phone batteries were depleted and the boredom made them cranky.
Matuto advised the kids to play outdoor games. It was a good idea, since they all know the rules and technicalities of almost all the sports, but had not actually played any of them physically.
Matuto helped in erecting a basketball post and he pumped an old ball he had been keeping for posterity.
Their days were spent playing the game, mastering moves and countermoves, keeping their mind focused and their personal pride – not to themselves – but to the glory of the team. It was not easy at first, because none of them had actually played in an actual team and computer games are very individual tactical sports. Every day brought new lessons and some frustrations, nevertheless, the challenges were hurdled with the masterful guidance of Matuto.
Finally the supply bus arrived and the message sent for the search party. The next morning was particularly saddened by the inevitable goodbye.
When the kids got back to Kranji Way, they discovered that their passion for computer games had waned and they met regularly to play basketball in a basketball court they themselves refurbished and cleaned. The following week, they tried out for the Teen Olympics and made the Singapore Team.
They won every game in their bracket and for the gold, only the Depending Champion stood on their way. It was a tough game – a tightly contested match that sent everyone up their seat in excitement -- but their new-found skills did not match that of the champion team, who had ingrained the game all their lives. However, the phenomenon made other kids to devote some of their time to physical sports that had been so neglected in the advent of computer games.

Storyline 3:
As the team grew more and closer as a team, each and everyone also developed their own specialty in the game of sports.
Chubi and Yend becomes good in gymnastics.
Awgie and Mitchel become stronger, tougher and has the knockout punch and footskills in boxing.
Donald and Nico become marathoners.
Spej and Adik becomes a fencing expert.
Anton and Bunny become’s competitive in equestrian.
Cris becomes a front runner in track and field and finally the big Billy becomes a good wrestler and weight lifter due to his size.
All in all, the timing was good for them as a basketball team and as an individual sports enthusiasts which will all be tested in the 2010 Youth Olympic Games to be held in Singapore.
