Description This macro shot reminds me so much of a ballet (Swan Lake? Nutcracker?) with the corps du ballet in the background and the prima ballerina in her sequined tutu in the foreground. These are snow crystals that formed in and around a miniature snow cave along the side of a path in Morgins, Switzerland. There is nothing underneath to support these crystals, they just formed this way. I had never seen anything like it in my life before and was fascinated by it.

Wow, one of the best winter photos I have seen recently - well done! I had no idea that crystals can take such beautiful forms and it does remind one of ballet. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you so much! This was a new phenomenon for me, too which is why I was so fascinated to see and capture it. I think it's officially called "hoarfrost". Absolutely magical.
