Description Behold another AU I created way back in 2018, sometime before October! Here we have a Tolkien-ized version of the Grimms brothers' tale of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. For this AU, I have adjusted the title to Glossuiel and the Seven Dwarves! I remember the time when I started drawing this because it was before my style changed -- you can see that they actually have noses lmao One of the Dwarves is holding a comb, which is an element from the original tale. Only, in this AU, I've altered it to a comb infused with Morgul spells XD In addition, all of the clothing designs for the Dwarves came from the Hobbit movie art book (huge credits to Nick Keller!), and Glossuiel's dress comes from Arwen's from the LOTR movies.
Glossuiel in Sindarin is a translation of Snow White XD As for the names of the Dwarves, I took a leaf out of Tolkien's book and went to the Dvergatal (the "Catalogue of Dwarves"), a section of the Voluspa -- which itself is the first and best known poem of the Poetic Edda (a collection of Old Norse poems). Literally all of the Dwarves' names (and Gandalf's name) from the Hobbit were taken from the Dvergatal. This is because Tolkien's Dwarves don't share their true Khuzdul names with non-Dwarves, so he used Norse for their "public names" XDD And that's what I did too, because it's easier than trying to figure out how to utilize Norse names!
My AU version of Snow White is essentially the same as the Grimms brothers' tale, with some changes. I gave Glossuiel a mix of Feanor and Luthien's stories, where her father is a Sindarin king but her mother dies, and she's also the fairest in all the land (hence why I made her an Elf XD). I haven't figured out how the canon characters of the Silmarillion would fit into this (especially Thingol, Melian, and Luthien), so please bear with me as I continue developing the AU
For the plot itself, I used the Grimms' tale as a base, while also adding in elements from the Silmarillion and Disney's version. For example, Glossuiel's lover is the mortal prince of the house of Beor (cuz I love Beren and Luthien lmao), and her stepmother is a Maia who is quickly seduced to the side of Morgoth. The seven Dwarves are miners from Khazad-dum. It's actually because of Disney's Snow White that I started this AU: I read that Tolkien (and CS Lewis) really disliked the movie because the dwarfs were too childish and silly. I happen to love the movie; Snow White is my favourite childhood princess. So why not combine two of my favourite things and make the Dwarves all noble?

Ah I agree! I hope I can work it into the history XD And if not, it can always be a tale to tell the children at night

It's a really nice picture. Very original true to the style of the characters as they dress, their body characteristics are very traditional. Above all, Snow White is a strong contrast in color compared to the more discreetly dressed dwarves wearing earthy colors. The scene is also very well done and exciting because you do not really know what is happening and what is going to happen. The expression of the dwarfs looks very critical and grim and Snow White is also very expressionless and her skin is rather pale than white. The details and anatomy in the picture are also very accurate, the proportions are very authentic in Snow White it is already kept realistic. And the movements make the picture more lively. Good work.

Thank you so much for your comment!! I'm very happy to hear your critique! I wanted to keep the dress colours from Disney's Snow White, but I did have a hard time with the Dwarves' colours, so I'm glad they turned out well (along with the composition and such)! Thank you!

I read somewhere that it was Varda herself that the High Elves from the Fellowship call "Snow White" in their song.

Snow-white! Snow-white! O Lady clear!
O Queen beyond the Western Seas!
O light to us that wander here
Amid the world of woven trees!

Gilthoniel! O Elbereth!
Clear are thy eyes and bright thy breath!
Snow-white! Snow-white! We sing to thee
In a far land beyond the sea.

O Stars that in the Sunless Year
With shining hand by her were sown,
In windy fields now bright and clear
We see your silver blossom blown!

O Elbereth! Gilthoniel!
We still remember, we who dwell
In this far land beneath the trees,
Thy starlight on the Western Seas.

Yes, that is right The translation of snow-white in that poem is Fanuilos. I considered that one, but decided not to use it because it's a name for Varda. Not to mention Elven naming customs require that the names of the Valar cannot be used for a newborn because it would be like impersonating them.
Glossuiel comes from glosui, which is a Sindarin adjective for snow white

Awesome! I especially loved Snow White's dress from Disney's version, so I think that's why she was my favourite XDD
