Description I just came out with this idea after talking with someone (~Obiwanlives4ever ) in my Knight!Lithuania drawing ...

I accept and respect all opinions, of course.

But I just don't like it much when Lithuania is portrayed as a weak Nation, especially when it comes to the times when he was at Russia's.
... I mean, he may appear a little 'defenseless' in some drawings and fanfictions of mine, and also in some official stuff, but I don't think that he is truly weak.
I think that living with Russia, at a certain point he realized that fighting and rebelling actively against him just brought more tension, suffering and self-destruction to himself.
... I mean, as much as a stubborn or fighting person you can be, I think that no one could manage to keep fighting actively for such a long time against such a powerful enemy... It'd be pretty self-destructive, in my opinion.

Moreover, thinking that Toris is a weak, quiet and submissive character is pretty pointless, in my opinion.
If he was that weak, he wouldn't be still here after all the trouble he has been into ...

... When a person decides to accept injustices from others not to make more tension and suffering, but without changing their opinions and keeping being silently strong, here in Italy we say that they 'bend but don't break'.
I think this sentence could fit Toris.

... Anyway ...
Err, I wanted to use some fan art but I found no one that could fit the stamp properly, so I decided to use my own drawing ><'

Opinions are ok, but please, don't start a fight, I hate them -__-

That's true. All three of the Baltics have to be tenacious enough to stay their own country. Otherwise, they would still be part of Russia.

The same with Finland.

Thiiis.

I honestly hate it when characters are portrayed as weak, when canonically they aren't.Β  Lithuania has a good-natured personality, and a lot of other good traits, and none of them make him weak.Β  The fact that he's under Russia's control doesn't make him weak, either; he's just smart enough not to challenge someone who's more powerful than himself.Β  And there's nothing wrong with that.Β  Besides that, there's really nothing in canon that implies he's "weak" or "defenseless", so I do have to wonder where those fanon characterizations come from...

Okay, I'm done.Β  *hugs stamp*Β  ^^

That's because according to a rather big part of the fandom (actually, of all fandoms), good-natured/quiet/nice means weak, defenseless, moe and such ... Which is a completely wrong prejudice.
He's quite the opposite of 'weak', apart from submitting to Russia (and as you said, it was not because he's weak, but because he's smart enough to understand that you can't attack someone at the peak of his power and win), he's said to be very good at strategies and such, and he even almost killed Prussia! And 'almost' is just because he decided to spare his life, even though he could have easily sliced his throat.

Hah.Β  I forgot about how he beat Prussia like that.Β  XDΒ  I guess the people who think Lithuania is weak haven't seen the strips.Β  He can be pretty badass when he needs to be.

And I agree.Β  Being nice and/quiet doesn't mean a person is weak.Β  I've actually seen good examples of quiet, shy characters who turn out to be quite capable.Β  I wish people would realize that dear Toris is a lot stronger than he looks...because, you know, appearances are deceiving and all.

*hugs stamp some more*Β  ^^

These are among my favorite strips ever!
I don't know, some people just ignore everything and go on with their idea no matter what.

Exactly.
I'm a very quiet person myself but I don't think I'm weak.
Yeah.
And Himaruya, especially, tends to play with appearances ...

I used to be really quiet myself.Β  These days I'm more outgoing, but I'm probably weak regardless, being sensitive and pacifistic and all that.Β  Lithuania's way more awesome than I could ever hope to be.Β

I FUCKING LOVE YOU FOR THIS.
As a Lithuanian myself, I fucking hate it when people portray Lithuania as a moe character. Especially when Lithuania has such a dark history.

Same here! I can't stand him as a moe ... It doesn't make any sense to me.
Well, no character in Hetalia is really moe, anyway, but when it comes to certain characters like Lithuania, I find it even more annoying because they're my favorites.

πŸ‘: 1 ⏩: 1

GabiChanAkatsuki In reply to Arisu95 [2014-12-03 18:15:40 +0000 UTC]

Agreed. Plus, if you look at Lithuanians as a whole, they aren't 'moe' at all - they're actually pretty tough. And angry. I am one of them, yes. So making Lithuania moe just makes no fucking sense...

πŸ‘: 1 ⏩: 1

Arisu95 In reply to GabiChanAkatsuki [2014-12-03 18:23:53 +0000 UTC]

How can you not be angry in this world?
I'm glad at least Romano is angry and fed up and all (I'm Italian)...
I mean, Feliciano is lovely, I even like him more than Romano, but Romano is definitely more 'Italian' xD

Now I sound kind of stupid talking like that with such an icon like mine!
But I think 'moe' is not just about the looks, it's mostly about how the character acts ...

πŸ‘: 1 ⏩: 1

GabiChanAkatsuki In reply to Arisu95 [2014-12-03 18:27:47 +0000 UTC]

You can't. Especially since Lithuanians are surrounded by people they hate - Russians (the reason is fucking obvious...) and Poles (especially Poles... Fucking thieves...)
Agreed, 'moe' IS meant to define how a character ACTS - cute.

Ah, I understand that even though it's bad to generalize on people ...
But I guess sometimes it's just too much and can't be helped.
Not just 'cute', 'overly and embarrassingly cute', I'd say.
Cuteness is not bad as long as it doesn't exceed.Β

Trust me, we know that it's bad to do this, but scars have been made. How would you like it if some country would just come in and take away your country's capital? (Just like Poland did to Lithuania)
Agreed.

πŸ‘: 1 ⏩: 1

Arisu95 In reply to GabiChanAkatsuki [2014-12-03 18:49:55 +0000 UTC]

I don't know, maybe we just don't have as much nationality pride as you guys have, and that is bad of us.
I mean ... Rome has always been very important, right, but the reason why it was chosen as the capital of Italy is just because it's in the middle and in honor of the Ancient Roman Empire.
Rome was owned by the Pope, we managed to take it away from him, and yet we still love the Pope.
Germany wanted to destroy our Country at a certain point in WW2, and today, not even a century later, it's like Italy can't help but admire Germany and feel in debt for no f*cking reason.
I don't know why, but it feels like Italians have a bigger pride when it comes to Italian regions rather than Italy itself as a whole.

πŸ‘: 1 ⏩: 1

GabiChanAkatsuki In reply to Arisu95 [2014-12-03 18:55:20 +0000 UTC]

Well, it also has a lot to do with the time period - between WWI and WWII. That was the time when Lithuania, after centuries of being in Russian's hold, finally managed to regain it's (Actually, Lithuania is a female word in Lithuanian. Go figure) freedom. Even after that we still had to defend ourselves against Russia and, later, Poland. Lithuanians felt a strong sense of pride that they were Lithuanian, they loved their country. And when Poland, a country we thought was our friend, betrayed us and took our capital away from us... Guess it just made an scar that will never heal.

πŸ‘: 1 ⏩: 1

Arisu95 In reply to GabiChanAkatsuki [2014-12-03 19:07:05 +0000 UTC]

(It's a female word in Italian as well. Almost all Countries' words are female in Italian)
Well, I think that always having to worry about your independence helped building your national pride.
It's weird how Italians seem to have so little pride... I mean, we too had to fight strangers on our territory and such, but ... Apart from Germans towards the end of WW2 and a few other cases, Italians have generally never hated those that invaded our Country. Not to the point of 'holding grudges', at least.
But again, I think this is linked to our regional pride. Like, when the king of Piedmont unified Italy, some regions were actually against losing their independence and were basically forced to join the Country.

To be betrayed though, that is really horrible :/

GabiChanAkatsuki In reply to Arisu95 [2014-12-03 19:12:55 +0000 UTC]

(I'm actually trying to think of a male country name and can't...)
I understand. I see that our countries are very different...

Indeed it is. That is also why I can't understand why Lithuania is 'friends' with Poland in the series. Poland basically tore out Lithuania's heart - still beating and bleeding. Not to mention that Lithuania was never scared of wars and we would often fight, so why the fuck is he scared of Russia if he should hate him?

πŸ‘: 1 ⏩: 1

Arisu95 In reply to GabiChanAkatsuki [2014-12-03 21:23:15 +0000 UTC]

(Egypt is one of the few male ones in Italian)

Well, they're not exactly friends.
Even though lately their relationship seems to be more 'fixed' in the series (and I think Himaruya made it for fanservice since LietPol is a famous pairing. It's a sad thing to admit, but I think that's why), their relationship is not as sweet and cheesy as the fandom tends to portray it, not even in the series.
Like, Poland is always annoying, bossy and sometimes even rude to Lithuania and he did nothing but laugh at him in the scene when Russia carried Toris away.
And Lithuania seem to 'tolerate' Poland more than actually like him, he often thinks about how bad of a friend Poland is and calls him a bastard sometimes in the series.
Of course Himaruya couldn't get too deep with them, as with anybody else, because Hetalia is supposed to be a light, funny show, even if sometimes it has its sad/serious moments.

As in the relationship between Lithuania and Russia, I think it's just for the sake of the joke with Russia being the scariest, tallest and all.
You can be scared of someone you hate, I guess?
I would tell you what I thought in order to solve most of the historical and relationship issues in Hetalia but it'd take me a while xD
Basically, what I think is, since the Country personifications are partially human too, it may be that their human part doesn't always agree with their Country part.
Like, for example in Italy's case, even though Italians may hate Germany or are willing to fight Germany, that doesn't necessarily mean that Feliciano agrees on a personal level, he may still like Germany as a person.
As in Lithuania's case, no matter what his Country side thinks, his human side may be scared of Russia's human side, that would have nothing to do with Countries, just on a personal level.

I don't agree with Italy being so clingy and attached to Germany, to be honest ... But well, at least Romano is the opposite.

Ahah, nah, that is pretty accurate, North and South Italy are not exactly on the best terms, after all. I mean, just like Feliciano and Romano, they do care about each other, but they don't like to show it in most cases.

He's strong, but I honestly think he'd make a better uke than Poland. Poland just doesn't seem uke enough, and Liet has his uke moments more often than Poland, at least from what I've seen. But yeah, he's strong. I read that he likes martial arts. As a taekwondo student, I like that.

I like Liet both as a uke and as a seme, but in LietPol I prefer Poland as uke ... Well, just in bed.
Anyway, what I think about Feliks is that he's dominant most of the times even in bed, just not in a physical way ... He seems to be the kind to 'dominate to get dominated' ... As contradictory as it may sound

I was quite surprised when I read that, but I think it suits him ^^
Nice! C: Never had martial arts, but they seem cool to me.
... And that comes from someone who hates anything involving physical activity.Β

Theanimefan123 In reply to Arisu95 [2014-10-27 21:26:01 +0000 UTC]

I just think Liet is easy enough to take advantage of to be the uke, except for in LietBel, where he kind of HAS to be seme… unless it's Nyotalia, which would probably make it BelLiet. Right? *tilts head*
It says in the wiki that he's easily taken advantage of and that Poland drags him around a lot. As much as I hate to say it, it seems like Ivan is the main reason why Toris is so submissive.
For the record, I hate physical activity as well, but taekwondo is really fun.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Arisu95 In reply to Theanimefan123 [2014-10-27 21:35:50 +0000 UTC]

That's true. Well, he has quite an ukeish attitude even in LietBel ... Not physically, of course, but still xD
And I agree about BelLiet in Nyotalia.
I agree, Ivan must be the reason. I think he was more 'seme-like' back in his knight times, but he can still be nowadays when and if he tries.

I still have to find a physical activity that I find fun xD Even though I don't mind ice-skating ... But I do it very rarely.Β

In one of my fanfics. 'Crossdresser with a Crush', I've made Lithuania a side character that works in a spy organization. His teammates were Belarus and Poland. Their boss (Finland) were disguising about a major enemy. Belarus catches a woman spying on them and ran after her. Belarus fought the deadly woman, but was defeated due to having the upper hand. The spy was about to kill Belarus, but Lithuania stop her before she could and fought her in hand in hand combat. She stabbed Lithuania in the stomach, but he blocked it with his hands and survived. Belarus awards him with a peck on the cheek for having the balls to fight a woman, which unlike other men (cause they're total pussies) could do.
That's how I view Lithuania.Β

ufd [2014-05-23 04:15:43 +0000 UTC]

I agree. I've always believed that there is strength in being patient, refusing to fight, and willing to accept and face your fear. Because of the shit that Toris had been through, he was able to get along happily with America, while other countries couldn't. Another thing to get across is that Toris goes through shit with Poland as well. It might not be as hard as with Russia, but it still takes strength.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Arisu95 In reply to ufd [2014-05-23 17:29:27 +0000 UTC]

Yeah. It is kind of heart-warming reading the part of the comics where Lithuania is at America's, I love how England gets surprised to see them get along. I think Toris, despite caring, holds a little grudge on Poland and finds it hard to understand how Poland can act as if nothing bad between them happened. Poland and Russia must be both hard to handle, in their own ways.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ufd In reply to Arisu95 [2014-05-24 00:12:40 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, and it's the reason why Lithuania can get along with America so well. Compared to Russia and Poland, America doesn't force Lithuania to do anything and usually asks for things. The only thing that makes America hard to get along with is just the fact he's full of himself and likes to be a brat sometimes (like when he places out the world map, which is only of North America) and asks where Lithuania's country is at. Many Europeans usually get frustrated with America, but Lithuania has learned to reason with people by going by their prospective.Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Arisu95 In reply to ufd [2014-05-27 00:22:41 +0000 UTC]

I think Lithuania loved the fact that America was young and full of energies, too absorbed in his own business to care about ordering him around. And maybe America acted like that on purpose, to make Lithuania more comfortable around him and grow a liking for Western culture and a disliking for Russia.
... Ah, but there is a funny strip where not just America, but Japan and Italy too don't know where or who Lithuania is andΒ for this reason get a little uncomfortable around him! Poor Liet being forgotten even by a European ... Eh, you know, I've heard 'Lithuania' being used as a way to say 'that place that no one knows and no one cares about' two times already by Italian comedians. That's a little sad.
