Argolith — The Invisible White

Description I titled this picture "The Invisible White" because the petals of the rose on this shot were actually red. They only appear white because it's an infrared picture with a properly set white balance.

Any thoughts on colors, contrast, or composition? Constructive criticism is always welcome.

I think it's beautiful as it is. The only thing I might have done as a second version is to colour ONE petal red or purple or something just to throw a wrench into the mix. The depth of field is fantastic...

Thank you. That's an interesting suggestion. However, I usually don't do selective color changes; only changes which affect the entire image.

I thought this was going to be taken with a converted camera, I'm surprised that the rose stayed still long enough for a 8 sec exposure.
It certainly is a wonderful photo with such pure whites

Well, I found that most flowers are not very fast runners.

Seriously, the weather was very calm so wind wasn't a problem. Thanks a lot!

Thank you.

Yes, it certainly was quite red seen in visible light.

IR photography does often create a surreal, dreamy effect.

I'm glad you like it.

fantastic! I seen so many poor IF photos, but this is a true one since you got the pure white look.

Thank you!

Yes, it's just like *xFfxDrummer said: Use grass to set the white balance and do some post processing in Photoshop.

Use a custom white balance. Fill your frame with foliage (I use grass) and expose with the IR filter on. Then, set your custom WB to that photo. This process is different across brands, so do your research.

There's plenty of post work to do, it's rare to get perfect white just from the shot.
