Well now there's one more Rainbow Dash as Iron Mare picture up on the internet xDA birthday/christmas present for my older brother, just decided to do it early.Β

I know exactly where the inspiration for this image comes from and what movie this image is from, although the character was changed and replaced with Rainbow Dash posing as Iron Mare, this is from Iron Man 3, I can tell because I have seen the cover art for Iron Man 3

I really like what you did with it though, I have no quarrel against using inspiration to fuel art. I think that is the first time I have ever seen an Iron Man reference used for MLP fanart.

ya I was trying to set a little darker mood, I mean if the sky was all bright and happy then it would look weird next to Rainbow Dash falling to her death.
I do need to work on the perfect balance though of too dark and just right though....

Gotta agree with the other people that the debris coming from the suit is a nice detail, also the clouds and the sun are a nice touch.
Let me guess someone enjoyed Iron Man/Avengers and got a good idea from it :3

ya I saw Iron man 3 for the first time and just thought, "Hmmm Iron Mare Dash would be a pretty epic idea to make." Messed around with a few ideas and decided to go with a defeated look instead of what everyone else does and trying to make Dashie look super awesome and cool

Well at first I was going for a distant look, but I couldn't get it to look right that small so went with that facial expression instead.

The clouds are great, very organic and you pretty much nailed the movement in this with the smoke, overall it has a nice visual presence!
I agree with *andaerz though with his point about your edge work, there are many different ways artists cope with their edges so just experiment for a while
and see what happens. You might even want to message a few artists around dA to see what their take on edge work is. There are many artists all around that would
love to help!
Hopefully when you stream next I'll be able to stay for longer!

Ya it's mostly been trial and error on edge work. Much better since I first started almost a year and a half ago, but there's always room for improvement Β

this looks kinda cool, you should try refining your edges and making them sharper.. Having thin lineart works well for me, or you could do something similar to *Rain-Gear and I guess block in the areas you want to me working on, lock them and shade them that way.. maybe something with masks... :V

Ya I do need to work on how to define edges better, although this one came out much better then some of my previous pictures, I still have a long ways to go for improvement
now that's photoshop manipulation I have no idea how to do or use right.Β
Man I wish some of my artists friends would tune into the livestreams once in awhile, would help me improve lots more

Oh naw it's fine, I can take criticism, I've sent Bernd a few pictures asking him to tear them to pieces so I can know how to improve.Β
I mean it's nice to hear from your friends "oh that looks really good" but it's nice to have a few friends that are honest with you on what might need a little work

I'd recommend looking up tutorials on the process of how people do their drawings/paintings. Something like this: fav.me/d22a4z7 (I remember checking that a year or so ago : |)
My sort of painterly process is doing a sketch --> fixing it/turning it to lineart --> adding flat colors under the lines, each on separate layers for the different materials and colors --> Locking the layers and roughly painting in the values for each material focusing on the big picture and not much on the details --> Making a new layer or multiple on top of everything and doing the detailing --> doing any sort of overall photoshopy color/value changes, signature etc.

naw it's cool I get that once in awhile when you have a train of thought and it's a bit of a long one.
But I do almost the exact same thing until after I put in base layers. My process for how I go about doing that part is a bit.... in need of help.
But I might start relying more on line art again, I've been trying to eliminate all my line art in my pictures but it's difficult to define edges using only lighting :/
And well hey thanks for stopping by for a bit! Come on Miyazaki films always get you side tracked, so I totally understand that. If you would be alright with it, I could let you know when I start up a picture so you can watch my process and maybe help me with trying to do it better. Well you know, if you want. I don't want to be that annoying person that begging everyone to help them
