Description (//Reader is a country/cowgirl in this. Since this has to deal with horses 'n' stuff so have fun reading!)

Down in the Eastern parts of Kentucky, there lived a girl at the age of 18 whose life is evolved off of horses. She was mostly alone all of her life, adopted by a family who didn’t give a care in the world for her. And she got emancipated at age 15 and started working for a girl named Autumn and fell in love with her horses. Autumn was very happy that somebody else enjoyed the horses as much as she did. They later shared their interests and their life and figured out that they have the same childhood basically.

(y/n) was now brushing the Thoroughbred’s black mane, hearing it blow out a gust of air from its nostrils. “Whoa boy, calm down. It’s just a newer brush; it’s not going to attack you.” (y/n) patted the horse as Autumn entered the room, squealing with excitement. (y/n) had no idea what was happening and put the brush in the bin and ran over to her boss.

“I just signed you up for a horse-racing competition of 50 grand!” (y/n) could not believe what she was hearing. She would get to race; instead of handing out ribbons at her boss’s racing competition? Her face instantly lit up as she bounced with her boss. “But there’s a catch…” Autumn said and (y/n) instantly stopped bouncing.

“What kind of ‘catch’?” (y/n) questioned and Autumn made a nervous face and rubbed the back of her neck.

“Well,” Autumn started “you would be racing with the top 10 best horse-racers in the world!” (y/n) felt her knees getting weak. She wanted to race but not with a bunch of professionals who know what they’re doing; let alone the best!

(y/n) just stared at her boss, wide-eyed and went “why?”

“Because you need the experience if you want to get paid better. Plus your crush is in it~” Yes, Alfred F. Jones was going to be in the race. He was number 1 on the list actually once you got to see who you would be racing against. You hated the hamburger-loving American with a passion, and just for that reason. He could eat anything he wanted and still look so skinny and have a six-pack. You gave your boss an un-amused glare as you stared at the list.

Your (e/c) eyes scanning over every little detail in the pamphlet your boss fetched for you to look at. From the sounds of it, there was no getting out of this; you were in a pickle with no way out. You tipped your hat to hide your face of embarrassment. “Oh god… Why, why, why did this have to happen? I’m not ready for this!” You grunted as Autumn tried to comfort you.

“They’re nice and they completely understand so they wouldn’t hurt you. Well, Alfred won’t but the others are nice and you’ll be racing against my boss! How cool is that?” (y/n) tipped her hat back to see blue eyes staring happily at her.

“Your boss; isn’t she one of the best horse-racers in the country?” You asked and Autumn agreed with her.

“She’s second in the world. But Alfred beat her by a medal so now they hate each other.” Autumn chuckled and closed up the barn. “Well, it’s closing time for these horses so I’ll see you tomorrow!” She said in her country-twang as (y/n) got in her car and waved at her and drove home.

The next day was a bit rougher since Autumn had to make sure (y/n) could ride bareback since that’s the requirement for this race. And (y/n) was training the horses, making them strong since it’s going to be a big loop then usual and 3 laps around. None of the horses cooperated with her and Autumn had to help control the horses a few times.

*:.With Alfred:*

“Dude look at this!” Alfred literally screamed at his older brother, Arthur, who was sitting peacefully drinking tea. Alfred was currently holding a newspaper right in Arthur’s face, making the Englishman snatch the paper and look over it.

“What is this you wanker and why did you interrupt my tea-time?” Arthur said as he sat the tea down on the table and read the article. It was about the horse-racing competition his younger brother was entering in; it had a list of names of people entering. He scrolled down to the very last one, it was numbered on skill and Arthur basically laughed. “You are racing against (y/n/first) (y/n/last)? How desperate are you by chance?”

Alfred had no idea what he was talking about. Arthur knew that he liked (y/n) but didn’t know how to tell her. “I didn’t know she was entering…must’ve been right after I joined or something like that.” Alfred pouted and scooted his glasses back into place. Arthur started chuckling at the American and grabbed his tea and started drinking it.

“You bloody wanker,” Arthur whispered as the other blond just exited the Englishman’s house.

*:.Back to you:*

You were pretty sore, trying to control the horses since you’ve never given them the kind of treatment that you were giving them now. You sighed as the day turned to night and you locked up the barn. Your boss had a meeting to attend for the horse race that would be in a couple of days and it was exhausting.

“Well I’ll continue with this tomorrow I guess? Get a goodnight’s sleep y’all.” You said, grabbing your hat off of your head and rustling your (h/c) hair. You sighed and put the hat back on and trudged to your car.

The next few days went by and the horses started cooperating more with you, and you were happy about that. You even took the horse that you were going to show out into the open fields for a ride. Everything went smoothly, until you received a visitor. You groaned and threw yourself off of the couch that you were currently laying on.

The door kept knocking as your pace started speeding up. “I’m coming; I’m coming, give me a sec!” You said then opened up the door. It was Alfred and those blue eyes of his as he wore a cowboy hat similar to yours. The rest of him was the same though: same hair, same glasses, same bomber-jacket, same pants…

‘Look up, (y/n) and stop staring!’ You quickly raised your head, a blush forming on your (s/c) cheeks as you chuckled a bit. “Uh,” you started “howdy Alfred! Long time no see, huh? Well I better go and check on the horses…” You tried closing the door but the blond stuck his foot between the door and the frame. You tried removing his foot from the door but it was no use. “Al, I need you to please remove your foot before I break it.” You said but he wouldn’t budge.

Just then he slammed the door open, making you stumble back and hit the wall. “So I heard you were in the racing competition with me, (y/n)? Is it true? Please tell me it isn’t?” He whispered the last part and you didn’t hear him. You just nodded and his face turned from a smirk to a sad smile. “Well then,” Alfred started to say “good luck.” He bowed his head then walked out of the door.

After a few minutes of just standing there; wide-eyed at what you just witnessed; you went out to the barn to check on the horses. Autumn was there, tending the horses. How could’ve you not seen your own boss? You shook the thought away and helped tend the horses with her.

*:.The day of the horse race:*

It’s been a few days since your encounter with Alfred and so you’ve been training really hard with the horses. You were getting ready for the race, grabbing the jockey outfit that you were going to be racing in. You sighed, putting the horse in the horse trailer and got into your boss’s truck. Your boss was driving of course and you were just in the passenger-seat. You thought of the conversation with Alfred, you decided to not tell Autumn.

She probably thought that her boss wouldn’t stop saying things like “aw” or “how sweet! What did you say to him?” Probably that second option is what she would say.

You looked out at the scenery. The horse race was pretty far from where you lived but you didn’t care one bit. You put a hand under your chin as you watched the scenery pass by. Your eyes got heavy as you then started to drift off into a deep sleep.

“Mom, can I ride today?” (y/n) asked she was 5 this time.

“No, you are too young and even if you were older, you still wouldn’t ride.” (y/n)’s step-mom said as she continued reading the newspaper.

(y/n)’s eyes started filling up with tears as she lowered her head. “My real mommy would’ve let me”- (y/n) was cut off to her step-mom pressing her against the wall. She gasped and tried to get the older woman’s arm off of her young throat.

“You do NOT talk to your mother that way. Do you hear me young lady?” (y/n)’s eyes filled with tears and just simply nodded. “Now say you’re sorry;” she spat out and removed some pressure from her step-daughter’s neck. Still keeping her on the wall though and waited for an answer.

“I’m sorry…”

(y/n) jolted up, bringing her hands to her neck. Pretending to pry the arm off that was in her dream. Autumn was just driving and didn’t even notice (y/n)’s wakening. She just kept on driving as (y/n) was panting this time.

“Are we there yet?” (y/n) questioned and her boss nodded. Pulling onto a dirt road and heading towards a bunch of stables. There were a bunch of cars parked, people trudging in the dirt to the large stadium that (y/n) figured out was where she would be racing at.

Autumn parked next to the stables and the two got out of the truck and (y/n) got her horse out of the trailer. The horse was pretty tall but there were a few people that were as tall as the horse; like Alfred. (y/n) led the horse toward the stable and what looked like the judges gave her a number. It was the number of the stall she would put her horse in. Right now she was going to give her horse a little bit of warm-ups then she would get on the horse, racing.

“Everyone at the start-up,” the announcer yelled as (y/n) got on the horse and made her way to the stall. She was the last one so she was number 11, the one farthest to the left. You lifted you head and peered through all of the other stalls. Seeing Autumn’s boss then Alfred, you saw him staring back at you and tilted his helmet towards you. The announcer started saying things like “let’s sing our national anthem.”

After that was done, the announcer counted back from 10.

“10,” you sat back on the horse.

“9,” you got the reins and held them tightly around your hands.

“8,” you sighed and put on a straight face.

“4,” you looked up and got ready.

“1, GO!” The race was on, you were (according to Autumn) in 2nd place. You looked to your right and noticed Alfred was first. Your teeth clenched and you got the whip and smacked your horse. It definitely went faster, but Alfred was still faster by a hair.

First lap completed, second lap completed, you were on the final lap. Everyone was behind you by a centimeter and you were almost in first. The crowd was cheering in the distance, making bids on who would win. Would it be you or Alfred? You were now just a few meters away from the finish line.

Alfred looked at you then smirked, smacked his horse then won.

You came in second place…

Some of the crowd cheered and the others were just silent. But later they cheered and when you brought your horse to the stands so the judges could give you the ribbon, some of them high-fived you and some told you “good job” or “you’ll get ‘em next time!” In that Kentucky accent that some of the fans had.

You got on the second place pedestal and watched as Alfred got on the first place and Autumn’s boss on the third. She smiled at you and mouthed “good job” then you all were handed your ribbons. Your ribbon was pink, Alfred’s was green, and Autumn’s boss’s was yellow. You were crying with tears of joy. Too bad you only got 30 grand but you were still happy.

Once you got the ribbon and the prize money, you put the horse back in the trailer and was about to hop in the truck when you heard a voice shout behind you. “Hey,” it was Alfred “(y/n), I need to talk to you dudette!” You whipped your head back and were now pinned next to the truck. ‘Man does he have the prettiest blue eyes?’ You thought and blushed at the sudden contact.

Just then, you felt a pair of lips on yours. Your (e/c) eyes widened and then you soon melted into the kiss. You wrapped your arms around the blonde’s neck and deepened the kiss. After a few minutes of making out, you two had to split for air. You gasped and fluttered your eyes shut as Alfred whispered in your ear.

“I still won…” Now you two were pushing each other around. Maybe today was the best day of your life?
