I usually work traditionally when I want an original. I've done card game art for ten years--but I've also done 2D and 3D work for computer games during the same period. I used to keep the two very separate--working digitally only for computer games. But airbrushing with friskets is a bit of a chore sometimes, so I've begun sneaking in a few digital pieces into my card game work. This is one of my first pieces that I painted digitally. I must admit that there is a bit of photo-manip in there: the moon. I did this quickly--maybe in three or four hours, not counting the sketch stage. Everything is a bit crude, given my rush for the deadline and my inexperience in painting full pictures (I've painted textures for low-poly models, but that's different, somehow!). Hopefully, one day I'll be able to do a more complex and finished digitally painted piece.

I found this as I was browsing through and the color scheme caught my eye. I really like the colors you choose, as well as the dynamic pose.

My only suggestion would be to edit the glove holding the bow. It may the res on this screen, but the light colored vertical lines on the glove makes it difficult to tell whether or not the hand is holding the bow is backwards. I think it is just because the lines are a close shade to the highlightes on the bow, and the fact that the lines follow the same curve. I think distinguising the hand from the bow would really make the image pop complete and I'd be able to focus more on the pic as a whole.

Anyways, just a suggestion! Great job on the piece!

Well it certainly turned out with an appealing gritty texture. I'm not wild about the hair but I love the moody lighting and the detail on that quiver! nice cloud work, too! For one of your first digital paintings, it's phenom!

Well, I should paint better than I do. I've had enough experience with both paint and photoshop... but I'm always in a rush (or that's my excuse anyway), and generally sleep-deprived... probably because it's 4am and here I am uploading stuff to an online gallery that I have neglected for a year or so, and answering comments even though my brain went beddy-bye hours ago (or maybe even years ago!). ^_^

And I agree, the hair is weak. I just figured out that maybe I should make a brush or something so that I can make it more feathery, instead of the uneven, jaggy lines I usually make... It probably doesn't help that I burned and dodged the heck out of it... I know I shouldn't use those tools so much, but I can't help myself! High-contrast is usually much more powerful, and I'm kinda sloppy when it comes to color-shifts anyway... *sigh*

THanks for your comment!

Wow This is beautiful that "crudness" gives a "mythological" feel to it
