Description “I’m searching for a person I hardly know, in a place so far from home, and I don’t even know where I’m going anymore. I followed their trail, as just as Kodine told me, but all that remains are footprints; the footprints of the one he announced my engagement to.

“Ezrail would never have decreed such a thing; freedom of choice was at the centre of his beliefs. With his death, however, and Kodine’s ascension into power, comes a dark time for the Noble House of Hrakken.”

---

At roughly 70 layers, and an original size of 2220 X 2580 pixels, this takes about two minutes to save.

I’m really proud of this… it took about two weeks to do, on and off, between other things (I PROMISE NOTHING…. It’s funny how whenever I say ‘I probably won’t be doing any highly detailed artwork’ always turns into ‘HEY LOOK WHAT I JUST CRAPPED OUT!’ (Despite being proud of this, I still appreceate critiques; regardless of whether or not I change this image, I do keep them in mind for later pictures, so they're greatly appreceated!)

Anyway, I also discovered that it’s really hard to reference wrinkles when the clothes you’re using for references are the ones you’re currently wearing.

Brownie points if you can figure out where the two arrows are pointing!

You did ask for critique, so here goes. x]

I feel like that the wind seems to affect only certain parts of the picture. It's pretty significant on the cloth on the pole, on the vest, and on the cloth (I don't know what it's called, sorry) in front of his pants. The biggest thing I noticed is that it doesn't seem to affect his fur (except for the tail) or his hair much at all.

The lighting on the face seems a little awkward as well. Looking at the rest of the body and the sun, it looks like the light's coming from above and behind. The head kinda has it, but the lighting isn't dramatic as the pants, or the tail.

The atmosphere of the picture is really nice though. The shadows on the ground, and the background in general are also quite nice. I do like the sign pole a lot though. xD The wood definitely looks worn.

lol, no worries. i appreceate the critiques. i'd be foolish not to

now that you mention it, i see what you mean, the fur on his legs especially, should have more of a blown look to it. his pants were meant to be a lighter green, but i don't think it worked as well as i would have liked ._.

thanks!

i will definitly keep the crits in mind for future pieces! ^_^

they're pointing to the City of Grey, and to the City of the Tree.

i am awful at coming up with thoughtful names, lol.

i'll just blame it on the city founders,

Lady-Elizabeth4242 In reply to apox0n [2008-08-13 07:08:53 +0000 UTC]

I've seen worse names for cities. Though it might be better if you didn't format them in the same structure. Like instead of City of Grey and the City of the Tree you could say. Grey City and City of the Tree.

Just a stray though Pay me no mind.

apox0n In reply to Lady-Elizabeth4242 [2008-08-14 18:06:19 +0000 UTC]

lol, i might try doing something like that with future Cities... although Grey does tend to be refered to as just 'Grey' ^_^

Morgan-Persimmon [2008-08-12 05:55:34 +0000 UTC]

I find it hard to give advanced critique, it's a nice piece. I like the detail of the bits of jewelry and dangly-things, and the only thing I could possibly say I dislike is that the feet look too small to balance on, for being plantigrade legs. But artistic license, eh?
And call me a nerd if ye like, but the red cloth on a post in the desert instantly calls the Wasteland outside of Gerudo Valley for me.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

apox0n In reply to Morgan-Persimmon [2008-08-12 06:46:55 +0000 UTC]

now that you mention it... i think you might be right. feet do tend to stick out just past chins. (i had a bad habit when i was younger, of drawing feet stupidly large... and i seem to have swung to the opposite extreme, lol)

... Wasteland outside of Gerudo Valley...?

Morgan-Persimmon In reply to apox0n [2008-08-15 10:34:17 +0000 UTC]

You're welcome for the foot advice (if it is advice at all, please don't take that as arrogance) And the wasteland in question being pictured here: [link] That is a screenshot from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, a game which will cause even non-obsessive un-fanboys to refer to it as "The best game ever." I hope you've palyed it, if you enjoy video games in the slightest?

oh wow, that's cool.

i havn't played OoT, i never had the right game system, but i've played TP, Phantom Hourglass and Wind Waker, so i hope that kinda, sorta, almost makes up for that

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Morgan-Persimmon In reply to apox0n [2008-08-20 21:43:11 +0000 UTC]

That does kindasortaalmost make up for it. But still, go fetch an N64 or a Gamecube with the special old-school Zelda disk of wonders, or even purchase Ocarina of Time from the Wii virtual store as soon as you have spare money. You should not be disjointedness. (disappointed. I must've absent-mindedly autocorrected a typo.)

apox0n In reply to Morgan-Persimmon [2008-08-21 04:55:39 +0000 UTC]

[link] fficial&client=firefox-a&um=1&sa=X&oiroduct_result_group&resnum=1&ct=title there's various places selling 'em online. They're not being made anymore I think ,so it might be easier on the intertubes than in an actual used game store.

GKmon-DORU-fanatic [2008-08-12 05:24:23 +0000 UTC]

Some really amazing work here, the detail is phenomenal! Just one minor critique since it is encouraged, the drawing feels slightly off-balance, like I want to tilt my head to see it correctly. This is probably due to a combination of the pose and the horizon. The human eye can detect if the horizon (or anything related to that) is off by even half a degree. Don't let this get you down, because this really is the best artwork I've seen in a while
