*Now property of Jhonen Vasquez.....Friend has better quality picture of it, will replace soon!*Well, it seems it has been a while since I have done a proper fantasy picture, of any kind, and it's been driving me nuts. This beastie was formed from what I saw in the creases of this paper. I traced the folds, and in my mind (I already know I'm crazy) it began to form this alien like eye. I then went on to fill in the gaps, and this is what came out of it. I want to paint him now, and so the WHOLE of him, so you can see how he really is, not just this glimpse.
This is probably the most fun I've had drawing in a while, and it took me quiet a while to actually get round to finishing it. All up, I think this one would have totalled 3 hours of drawing. Alot more time to think about where things should be, etc.
I hope it's not too confusing to look at.
Isn't he cute, in an ugly kind of way?
p.s. Due to crappy camera, this has turned out shit. Will update the Image later on hopefully, when I can borrow a better quality camera that has MANUAL FOCUS!

This is really good. What I appreciate the most is that you can feel the emotion behind it. The lines...shading and everything its real. It's not like the stuff on Daily top favorites that are considered good because they know how to color inside the lines.
For me art isn't art unless you can see the struggles and love behind it. All day I am seeing Fanart of Naruto or Anthros in which they consistently draw bold lines and have fancy cell shading that don't really compliment the figure. I like cell shading, its what I do but I only like it if it compliments the line and the emotion. It feels like a human being did this piece and not a machine or an idea.

Thanks!!! Yeah I have pretty much the same views on stuff like that as you. Cell shading is good if it's done correctly, but wheres the originallity in it? Sometimes it can be just non existant. Some people who do fan art are really talented, don't get me wrong, but I just wish they'd put some of their effort into something original and their own. That way, they could maybe get somewhere. It makes me angry that fan art is more popular on Deviant art then anything else. It's a shame.
