Description ---I'm a Japanese and It was happened at Japanese school.---

When I was a elementary school student, I spoke My First English.

One day, a new student came my class and he was from US. He could speak Japanese A LITTLE and be shy. So, I tryed to greet in English!! But I couldn't speak English because I speak Japanese every time. So, I asked another classmate how called "Hazimemashite!" in English. He know some of English. ("Hazimemashite!" means "Nice to meet you!")

He told me that....."Hazimemasite" was "Fuck! Kill you!" in English.

It is not correct? Yes. It is absolute mistake. He joked me. But I believed it and....

I "Hi!"
New friend "Hi."
I "fuck! kill you!"(with smile)
New friend "......"

I thought my pronunciation was poor and said it again more loud voice. New classmate was at a loss with tear and another classmate laughed at us. I can't understand it.

Now I study English at school and I become to be able to speak English. But it is A FEW. So my typing is very very slow and incorrect. I need dictionary when I am in BBS, chat, DA, MSN Messenger, and so on... Especially I am confused by interjection, emoticon, and slang.

I want to progress my English. XD

About the same thing happened to me when I was at school before. Some naughty Chinese kids in my class decided to challenge me to say "我爱你" ("wo ai ni" ) to a Chinese girl sitting at a corner of the class. I asked them what it means, but they say that they'll only tell me after I have said that sentence to her. So I approached that girl and said "我爱你!!!". She got angry and slapped my face hard. The Chinese kids laughed and finally told me that "我爱你" means "I love you" in Chinese. I got very angry afterwards. Now, I have studied a little Chinese, so I know better.

True, English is a very difficult language, especially for its inconsistent writing system. I'm one of the lucky Malaysians with a very good English knowledge. Most of my classmates at the university I'm studying really suck at English So much, that I ended up having to translate certain text to Malay just for them. (Unfortunately, the university I'm studying uses English as the base language, so my friends are at a sad disadvantage for this.)

Oh and I did learn some Japanese, too. (Proper Japanese, not the ugly Japanese some crazy Japanese cartoon fans speak...)

As for the enlish thing, dont worry about it. Enlish is the hardest laguage to learn. If you need help with slang, you can always message me, at kaideb@msn.com . Being a California girl, i know alot of slang! lol

Poor thing. I've had a few freinds from Japan while in college who've had similar problems. My lack of speaking ability in Japanese and their lack of vocabulary in english led to some interesting conversations though. One lady had difficulties with pronouncing my name (Holly) and chose to rename me instead, with the first word of Japanese she heard me use, "kitsune". I have been nicknamed "fox" or "kitsune" ever since.

Pfft, jeez, that must not have been to good to hear on the first day. But I know it happens to everyone.

And besides... At least you know better English than I know Japanese. Um... Fushigidane? I dunno. You're better at it than Zero Wing, though.

Probably your pronunciation a bit off by that time, "Hazimemashite!" actually means "It's the first time we meet" in English, your classmate maybe said it as "first to meet you", but hey, everyone have their own first time to be embarrass, SoDeSuKa?

Did your US friend understand that you'd been messed with? I bet you hate prepositional phrases! Even most people who've spoken English their whole lives misuse preopositions.
