Nice job of controlling the depth of field to blur the background which seems to help bring out the eyes as the focal point. This piece also conveys some emotion which adds to the depth. The limited color palette adds more interest into those eyes. Nice job! It might be worth trying to bring this photo into photoshop and adding in some white to the darker areas on the background and in the shadows between the front legs to draw more interest to the eyes as well as cropping the top of the picture a bit. For another look you could crop the eyes into another document for another cool look.
