Description "The name "lynx" originated in Middle English via Latin from Greek word "λύγξ", derived from the Indo-European root "*leuk-", meaning "light, brightness", in reference to the luminescence of its reflective eyes." -Wikipedia

This is Lady Jane, the Canadian lynx at the wildlife refuge where I worked over the summer. Although Woodlands Wildlife Refuge usually rehabilitates animals and releases them back into the wild, Jane had been abused and declawed by her previous owners and therefore would have a very low chance of survival if released.

I'm sure it's obvious to most people but it apparently isn't to some: keeping wild animals as pets is just not a good idea. And it's illegal, so there's also that.

This has been your PSA of the day.

She has a beautiful face. It's a shame she can't be released.

Lovely portrait of her.

It really is a shame.

She's really quite gorgeous--too bad she's decided for whatever reason that she doesn't like me and hisses when I walk past her enclosure. >.>

It's probably nothing personal. You're just an upright fleshy creature that she would give a thorough lacerating if she had claws and freedom to do it.

...so just a (stereo)typical cat, huh?
