I'm not just trying to be controversial, here, I read your poem and I liked it a lot. Just thought it bore mentioning that not everyone thinks the puzzle piece is the best thing. I does have a strong basis in the experience of people in the eighties and nineties, but now autism is everywhere.

Incidentally this is what bugs me (and many others on the spectrum) about the puzzle piece. It makes autistic individuals overly mystefied and so damages people's relationships with us on top of the symptoms of autism itself, and it takes the focus away from autistic people's daily lives, and even their natures as human beings in favor of disecting us as "interesting phenomena" or as some bizarre notion of a miracle. The harder it is to see our lives as mundane, the harder it will be to see our lives as human lives.

good thing you support autism awareness! here in holland the opinions about autism are terrible. tonight on a tv show some pseudo-psychiatrist was "analyzing" this psychopath who blackmails people and says on tv that it is typical for people on the autistic spectrum..
that is the view a lot of dutch people have on people with autism-related diagnoses.

i was diagnosed in 2005. When i was in high school i was in the fifth grade going into middle school they didn't understand what was wrong with me yet. So they Labeled me Emotionally Disturbed.

I was never really as messed up as actual kids with emotional problems. When i was diagnosed i looked it up and everything just made sense.

thanks for the comment.
