This is my submission for Tapas Halloween Contest. I drew Arthur (left), Tessia (middle), and Elijah (right) from The Beginning After the End (TBATE) after trick or treating. I want to show the Halloween feeling and I thought enjoying the treats collected after a long night of trick or treating is a good way to portray this feeling. Tessia is smiling because she's happy for the time she spent with the two, especially with Arthur. In the novel, Tessia has a crush on Arthur. Elijah is busy rummaging through the treats of candy, like this is his first time experiencing such an event in his life. In the novel, Elijah is raised by dwarfs so being in the human kingdom and attending school was his way of seeing a new world. Arthur is sitting there, eating his treats while observing Elijah. Elijah's delight to experience trick or treating seems to catch Arthur's attention. In the novel, Arthur is more mature and observant of others. He sees Elijah as a close friend, having a brother-like relationship during their youth.

For their costumes, I made Arthur wear a king costume, which is a reference to the King Arthur legend and also to the fact that Arthur was a king in his past life. Tessia wears a witch costume because Tessia is a conjurer and that gives me a "witch" vibe. Elijah is a vampire because in the past, vampires are seen as evil and in a way, Elijah holds some darkness in him.

I was having a hard time thinking of how to do the background. I’m not confident in drawing background, so I settled for drawing the three characters sitting in front of a doorstep. I thought doors would be easier to draw. I made the doorknob a bit fancy so that the background doesn't look too lackluster. I enjoy coloring pumpkins. After realizing the time I spent on the pumpkin, I rushed to finish the entire thing. I think I made it in time. I was having trouble with the lighting. I wanted to make it darker and make them glow, but I don't think I have enough time to add the shadows so I settled for a lightly dim doorstep.
