Cello Gripper is my favorite! It works so well with varying angles and respond to pressure as well.
What kind of paper do you use? Well, watercolor paper and grained paper is available in our country but it is so expensive that one cannot use it just for practice and random stuff. Most of my work is done on cheap printer paper.

I use ordinary A4 paper ... it's a bit thicker than the printing paper

and black pen for the black portions
