Description I finally found the time to finish colouring my dragon bookmark.
The dragon itself was done in about an hour...those damn books took more than 5...

The lineart can be found here: [link]

o.o oh wow.. ok yes My.. coloring skills pale in comparison ... O.O no. I haven't yet taken this to color it. I'm almost afraid to ask about that now that's amazingly good!

Alright. I was excited to color the bookmark before I saw the finished one xD I know for a fact I will not have the patience to color it as good as this. The dragon is iffy, but the books and stuff are awesome.

Thanks!
I agree that the dragon looks a bit odd, thatΒ΄s why I recoloured it in the final version of the bookmark.
And I didnΒ΄t expect anyone to spend as much time on colouring the lineart as I did on this but IΒ΄d still love to see other personsΒ΄ interpretations...so donΒ΄t let seeing my version stop you from trying yourself (and sending me a link when youΒ΄re done so I can see it).

there is something strange about this pic... maybe it needs more contrast (the dragon) or maybe it is just that you worked with different styles and it looks like a collage. either give a gradient/smoother glimpse to the dragon, or color the books by hand. it is a nice pic and i like the perspective, but you need to work more to combine every part of it
i hope it helped!

ps. sorry for my bad english!

Ankaraven In reply to inkynebula [2008-10-24 17:33:30 +0000 UTC]

I know what you mean, I had a similar feeling when seeing the finished pic...IΒ΄m currently recolouring the dragon and adding a background...
But the books are coloured by hand...I just did not use the smudge tool on them like I did with the dragon, I used a smoother brush.

p.s. And you definitely donΒ΄t have to worry about your English, mineΒ΄s not better than yourΒ΄s

Does he have glasses?.. What an interesting detail! It really makes him look wise and devoted to reading.
The picture overall is very good. I like the detalization and the peaceful atmosphere of it.

Thanks a lot! Yes heΒ΄s got glasses...reading in a dragon caveΒ΄s dim light all day cannot be good even for a dragonΒ΄s eyes in the long run

Yes, IΒ΄m currently working on it...itΒ΄s part of a cave with recesses for books in the walls... like a "cave-library"

The books are looking great...but the dragon has a diffrent colour then I imagined it before(jup, I still prefer the lineart).

Still a good job on this one!

I know, the dragon looks a bit statuesque but I wanted to try that metal effect...I was thinking on doing a second version with green-brown-gold hues...is that more what you imagined?

The books look great...excellent detail. I like the little spectacles on the dragon.

A little constructive criticism though that was given to me many years back regarding my own dragons. I recommend studying bird anatomy a bit so that you get a better understanding about how the bones would fit together to be functional. While the curves may look nice, they lack realism.

Here's an example.

Hope this helps.

Great piece though. Really, really cute idea.
