"She was only 20 when she died. We were waiting for each other for some years because she was too young.
She came from a poor family in the USA / Arizona. Her mother committed suicide when she was a little girl. Mother had cancer and was in too much pain to live.(Been a happy girl - the song describes it in her words) She was like a mother for her little sister and baby brother.
At age 13 she ran away from home. Got together with a man (boy) who made her addicted to heroin. Became pregnant age 16 and in the 6th month her boyfriend decided he did not want to be a father. He stabbed her with a knife, kicked her and beat her til she was unconscious. next day she woke up. Blood everywhere and the baby was gone.
She came on a holiday to Copenhagen not long after and fell in love with me. I said "Jay I am too old and you are too young" She said, I will wait for you until I am old enough. I got her into drug therapy and we visited each other much. She went into the army because they promised her to pay for her university.
When they told us that she would be sent to Iraq we decided that it was time to have a baby and live together because
a) we really wanted a child
b) she could get out of the army.
We were so happy when we finally succeeded in becoming pregnant.

she got out of the army and I helped her to get a place at the university in Los Angeles. the meaning was, that she would come to Denmark as exchange student and we would get married. We were looking forward to a really happy life together.

One evening, short before she would have come to Denmark she was raped and beaten very very badly.

She came to the hospital and had an operation, she was ok but they sent her home and she got a bad fever. I went to Los Angeles, but when I came she was very very weak. I brought her to the hospital again but it was to late to save her.

She had such a hard life. Poor girl. What makes me happy is, that I know she was happy and learned how it feels when someone really loves you, and cares about you. I miss her, I miss her so much, but I know she has peace and is happy now. "
