hmm, as best as I can explain it, it's when shading blends seamlessly, edges are well defined and the painting has a lot of depth to it.Β
For example, a hyperrealistic painting needs to be extremely well rendered in order to look realistic.
And what I meant by your picture not being too overly rendered, was that it has a nice painterly feel to it and doesn't feel overworked although you probably put a lot of time into it (: it looks effortless, and I think that's something pretty hard to achieve and looks great! I find that you especially achieved that with your skin coloration (:
