See the line art: [link] I'd like to dedicate this image to my mother, a lovely inspiring soul who has been there for me at the best and worst of times. She is an avid lover of Turquoise, the December birthstone, and I channeled quite a lot of her giving and kindness through this.

She really adored the Seasonal Angels and therefore this series has taken on the flavor of that one with its art nouveau flair.

Turquoise is a stone of healing, purification, and communication. Just as white narcissus, holly, and poinsettia symbolize innocence, everlasting life, and hope. The crown on her head symbolizes Saint Lucia, who gave hope to the suffering during a time of darkness.

May the Angel of December light your darkest hours with bright blessings.

I was greatly inspired by the wonderful birthstones/monthly flower series by ~mistressofspam and *windfalcon . I also utilized *syccas-stock 's gorgeous series, Ker's Candles . They are all muses beyond compare.

Watercolor, Color Pencil, Pen & Ink. 8.5x11 inches.

Nice. I like the whole scene but the wings stand out to me the most. Well drawn.

I decided to feature a few pieces of my β€œpersonal fav” folder, that were created with my stock photos and this is one of them. Have a look at the other works if you like: [link]

I really like that, looking around for some inspiration, my mother passed away when i was young, and for years ive wanted an angel tattoo in commemoration (angels were one of her 'things'. I hope mine comes out even close to this good.

wow, it's finished
not the colours I had expected, somehow I thought of the typical christmas colours, as well, but I actually think it's good you didn't drown the pic in red and green, but only gave it a little spot in the image
I like the glow of the mandala in the background, not to mention the coloration of the wings... ah the wings...

AngelaSasser In reply to syccas-stock [2008-11-23 14:28:58 +0000 UTC]

I'm glad the more subtle Christmas approach comes off. I wanted it to have the feel without smacking people over the head with Christmas imagery. I'm so happy you enjoy it It really wouldn't have been the same without your inspiring stock.

syccas-stock In reply to AngelaSasser [2008-11-23 17:28:43 +0000 UTC]

yah, I imagine your hitting people over the head with your keyboard shouting "get! into! the! christmas! spirit! already!!" (note: one hit after each word ^^)
and thank you, too, pictures like these remind me of why I even decided to do stock in the first place

Glad to hear it Your candle series makes me want to whip out some of my own candles and try out some fun things with lighting. There really isn't enough good drapey artistic candle shots out there. Yours was one of the few that wasn't too dark and actually had someone posing classically.

syccas-stock In reply to AngelaSasser [2008-12-02 21:34:07 +0000 UTC]

I think I need to redo those old pics, they were one of the first in my stock-account (thus, grainy and small and basically unusable for photomanipulators - so I'm glad a traditional artist could make use of it )

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AngelaSasser In reply to syccas-stock [2008-12-03 17:42:26 +0000 UTC]

bah they can just paint over if they want to use them, it's more work, but it's worth it if the image is something they really want to use, buut I AM intrigued by the possibility of seeing a return to this subject matter in stock. I love it muchly

syccas-stock In reply to AngelaSasser [2008-12-03 20:20:18 +0000 UTC]

we'll see - since I'm currently out of new ideas with Liz anyway (and her ego has become too big to bear do to her playing my stock-model XD) we might just re-do a whole bunch of old pics ^^

Wings are really nice. The draping of the fabric is really nice too! Over all a lovely piece. Sorry my brain doesn't seem to want to cooperate and produce more articulated thoughts. I just wanted to let you know I thought this was a well done piece.

Thanks Seth! Glad I can keep up to par on my wing forms! I was trying to stylize them a bit more here, which was a challenge. Thanks for taking a look

I really like this. Very beautiful. I like the traditional Christmas headpiece. I think your girl's face is much prettier than the model she was based on!

I also really like the background. It looks almost Celtic.

What was your medium?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

AngelaSasser In reply to ProphetGeist [2008-11-22 16:44:08 +0000 UTC]

I was definitely going for a more traditional pagan appeal It's actually pen and ink line art, watercolor for the majority of the picture except for the skin, which is in prismacolor color pencil. I'm glad you enjoyed it

ProphetGeist In reply to AngelaSasser [2008-11-22 22:55:41 +0000 UTC]

It reminds me of something on an old tarot card.

Actually, I'm playing Fable II now and it reminds me a lot of some of that art. I love it!

AngelaSasser In reply to ProphetGeist [2008-11-25 19:00:41 +0000 UTC]

I'm a huge fan of tarot so I'm quite flattered by the comparison. I'm still pondering making my own set.

Ohh I've heard so much about Fable 2. I can only hope it's much better than the first, but the art was always fabulous for both.

Yeah. I'm about halfway through, I think, and it's definitely taken me longer than the first game, which took me a total of 10 hours, I think. Way too short.

I'd die without mine. This sounds pathetic, but I went to visit my dad for five days and hauled it cross-country. It's kind of okay because he played it more than I did.

I also want to mention that I like that you didn't stick with "traditional" Christmas colors. Yes, her shawl is red and green, and the darker variants of the colors, which I appreciate so much more than their more vibrant and somewhat loud counterparts. You also use a lot of blue, which not only do I LOVE, but it really feels winter-y because of it, and you get the feeling of turquoise.
