All your work is astonishing but this is I think my favourite. The composition is so emotive, the skyscape is just beautiful, and the lighting and colour work perfect. Thank you for so much inspiration!

Beautiful, evocative, immersive, and inspiring. Truly great work in bringing out in the painting that atmosphere and that sunlight on the golden fields.

I love this art style. Well done indeed! I truly hope that you will create some Tolkien art too. It would be a joy to see Tolkien's world and stories visualized in your creations.

From the grey of the clouds to the fiery yellow of the grass surrounding the rider, you used a range of colour very effectively. It is easy for a range of colour to clash and make Β picture look gaudy, but you have used it in a way that makes your picture vibrant.Β

Ah... memories. You are one of the artists whose work initially lured me to DeviantArt and, after I finally resolved to bring my account out of dormition, the originalΒ Fields of Gold may well have been the first picture I commented upon. I still believe it is a really great work, by the way !

So, what's up with this new take ? One tombstone out of the way and a closer crop at the bottom of the picture : yes, why not ? This is a very panoramic piece and, as such, it did not really need such a visible grassy foreground.Β Perhaps a more significant modification is the fact that the riding figure is markedly smaller than it was before. This, added to the bigger, bolder and distinctly Gothic-er cathedral (a new look which tends to emphasise the fantasy element), subtly changes the dynamics of the picture : definitely more present in the landscape, the architecture holds a much more powerful position over the almost dwarfed rider -- in a clever move, this difference in scale is also used to give more weight to the focal point of the flaming banner.

Which makes me realise that the mood and meaning of the original painting feel slightly altered in my eyes : I, for one, had always imagined the rider with the horned helmet to have malicious intentions and to be on his way to burn everything to ashes (or to be in the process of doing so). After all, in the 2010 version, he was wielding a torch, not a banner, and his stance was certainly more threatening. He might have been the vanguard of a particularly enthusiastic pillaging party, or a solitary dark figure exerting revenge upon the town for never-forgotten grudges. Now... I'm not so sure. The urgency is still here, obviously, but less so the feeling of being the helpless witness to havoc wreaking. Perhaps I misinterpreted it all these years... To be honest, I am a bit nonplussed by the banner-on-fire concept : isn't it somewhat impractical ? or is it in fact not on fire at all ? It is perhaps the only niggling detail (albeit one that makes for great imagery) I may find in a reinvention which otherwise stands in immediate-favourite territory.
