Description While doing this I kept thinking "this is gonna looks awful" but in the end it turned out Ok

Hopefully I'll get paid for this tomorrow, then I can afford to buy KH2 on errr... monday. I might have time to get it then.
Aaaaanyway, better go work on that contest entry. Only got about a week left to ge it done.

Materials: printer paper, mechanical pencil, Derwent drawing pencils, Prismacolour pencils, Lyra blending pencil.
Time: about 5 hours.
Thoughts: why am I always drawing grey horses?

Number 72: Mischief managed in the big 100

Seriously, I love grey horses, they look so gorgeous! (not saying that I hate all over colours, just that grey is my fave )

Lovely pic!

I love how you did the dapples, you made them actually look furry. especially on his belly.
do you always use printer paper? You should try some cartridge if you can get it, I find it easier to use coloured pencils on than printer paper... but different things work for different people.

Thankyou
I usually use printer paper. Right now I'm usung a piece of cartridge paper for one of my drawings, but the texture is REALLY grinding my nerves.

lol! Yeah it is kinda different, I prefer the smooth surface cartridge for cp's (and graphite as well actually)

Great work girl! Dappled greys and whites are so hard. I never do them when I do a piece for myself! You did great.

thanks hon

Yes, but that was a fluke! And I guess I should have specified (because suddenly I remember more greys that I've done...), I dont do dappled greys! I find those even harder then whites!! You did extremely well on a dappled grey!

^_^ tis not that wierd, I used to know a horse that jumped out of his field regularly. Thats sorta why I put it as mischief managed in the big 100.

this looks great! uhm i have a stupid (or at least seemingly stupid) question... this is my fav kind of horse but i have NO clue what they are called in english.. in german they are called "Apfelschimmel" which translates into apple mold which i HIGHLY doubt they are actually called in english lol

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

andpie In reply to DreamingMyth [2006-10-07 05:47:43 +0000 UTC]

Um, you mean his colouration? He's a dapple grey (although I've heard his owners calling him a rose grey for some reason ) Would be cool if he was apple mold though

Very nice... it's good to know that artist's can get work. lol. I would never attempt coloring a grey horse, so kudos to you. XD

andpie In reply to mediocrelife [2006-10-07 05:45:24 +0000 UTC]

Yes I feel really lucky to have found so many people who want to commission me.
Most of my clients are locals who I actually know, I've only had a couple of people show interest online. Most of the people on DA are artists themselves and thus have little money to afford to buy art.
And as for colouring a grey horse- its getting much easier with practice so I hope I'm bitching about it a bit less now. Thanks for the kudos, have a and a

Lovely shading as usual. That background must have taken a while! And he has a good, solid Irish name as well. Well done!

Actually, the BG took less time than usual I like his name too, he has a little sign on his stable door with his name and a bunch of shamrocks. Its pretty.
