whats wrong with the f stop and the iso? whatever makes a good picture imo...

DimensionSeven In reply to Zanzak [2010-05-24 06:53:45 +0000 UTC]

It's a technical thing. Iso 320 and f/16 gives equal exposure to iso 200 and f/13.

The lower iso gives less noise (although I know that there's not much difference with that sensor), and f/13 makes sharper pictures than f/16. Diffraction kicks in at f/8 in the center, and at f/11 in the corners, so you have to make sure not to pass these borders if you want to squeeze the most out of your camera.

Holy sh**t... I didn't know that Do you happen to know what's the best f stop for the Canon 18-55mm lens? I've been experimenting with f22 and f16, but it feels like crap tbh.

The old kit lens? It's best place is on ebay...
that's page 2, scroll down for resolution figures

It's actally the worst EFS lens for Canon ever made... It's never sharp, not even on a 6MP sensor: click the 'blur index' graph

These 2 sites - slrgear.com and photozone.de - are your friends to know your equipment better, without spending days of testing for yourself.

Good choice, for Canon APS-C, that's the best wide angle lens (although the Tokina 11-16 f2.8 and Tokina 12-24 f/4 II come close as well, and they are cheaper too).

Which one of those three would you recommend the most, based on price and quality?

DimensionSeven In reply to Zanzak [2010-05-24 15:36:37 +0000 UTC]

Depends on what you need: the 10-22 is the widest and the slowest of them. The 11-16 f/2.8 is the fastest (optically), but has small zoom range. The 12-24 f/4 is the most convenient. Both Tokinas are better built than the Canon. Only the 10-22 EFS is good for infrared photography of the 3. For sharpness, chromatic aberration, vignetting and distortion characteristics search for them on the mentioned sites.
