Harry is so cute! The style kind of reminds me of art (oddly just this piece, not your other art.) I like how he doesn't just look like James' clone, you can definitely see some Lilly in him as well.

No matter how angsty or emo Harry got on us in the books, I always pictured him as the symbol of innocence. With my anime/manga influence big doe eyes just seem perfect for Harry. I'm actually anti-anime eyes (think Tohru Honda from Fruits Basket) but Harry's story is closely knit with his eyes aside from his scar, in my opinion, so it seems fitting. I don't think I've ever drawn a Harry that resembled anything older than thirteen. I can't think of him older either in my head. He'll remain childish and filled with innocent wonder for the rest of my life probably.

It's nice to cherish Harry's innocence and childhood. Harry looses his innocence when he's about 14 after he watches Cedric die and Voldemort come back from the dead and torture him. It's sad that he lost his innocence at such a young age, by the time he was 17, he'd witnessed 3 murders (does Dumbledore's death even count as a murder since Dumbledore and Snape planned the whole thing?) and then several more in one year. This is also a real turning point in the series too, it gets darker as the series progresses. It's kind of funny how it's considered a children's series considering how dark and even disturbing the content is in the later part of the series (basically being possessed by a dark wizard is pretty creepy stuff, even if it is fantasy.)
I think he got so angsty and emo when he got older, especially the end of his 4th year/during his 5th year is because he was suffering from depression and probably some PTSD as well; it's really sad that no one got him any help, especially since he was showing some pretty obvious warning signs (but no one really noticed because wizards know nothing about psychology, they're so backwards sometimes.)

You're right. Harry was showing very obvious signs of trauma and no one in the wizard world or muggle world tried to suggest he get help for it, or at least work through it with people he could trust. It's like it was ignored or just treated like hormornal mood swings and not a serious problem. Then again this is the same literary universe where no one noticed Harry's neglectful childhood with the Dursleys. His muggle school teachers must have been ignoring the signs (Harry's old clothes, broken glasses, malnourished, underweight) or J.K. Rowling's world constantly overlooks these things when it comes to this boy. Poor kid.

Yeah, I don't get that at all. Maybe Rowling didn't think about psychology when she was writing the series, I don't know. It's one of those weaknesses in the series I guess. I've always wondered where the Child Care Services were all of Harry's life. At least here in America, if medical personal or teachers even suspect abuse/neglect they're required to report it. There were some pretty big warning signs that Harry was being abused/neglected even if there aren't bruises all over his body. Plus, why didn't Dumbledore ever check up on him? Then there was the fact that Harry constantly begged Dumbledore not to make him go back to his relatives over the summer, that's one of the main signs that a child is being neglected/abused.
It's obvious Harry had some serious issues after the end of his 4th year, just the fact that he witnessed something so traumatic should've gotten people's attention. Harry was definitely suffering from depression and was traumatized, it must've been really hard for Ron and Hermione to watch their best friend suffer like he did and not have anyone to turn to for help, there were no school consolers or teachers who understood what was happening to get help from for their friend. It would've been interesting if Snape had noticed something was seriously wrong with Harry, especially since he spent so much time with him that year and probably gained access to his memories; he might be a jerk but he's not heartless, especially since he's probably the person who can understand what Harry was going through the most.
